An exciting opportunity is available for a Power Systems Mechanical Engineer to join a growing electrical engineering department focused on advanced automation and power distribution systems. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and integrating mechanical components that support electrical control and power distribution equipment used in industrial automation environments.
This position offers the chance to work alongside a highly collaborative engineering team developing innovative solutions that enhance manufacturing and energy systems. The ideal candidate will bring experience designing mechanical components for power distribution equipment such as switchgear, switchboards, and motor control centers while ensuring compliance with industry codes and standards.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with electrical engineers to analyze power requirements and equipment loads for automation and power distribution projects.
Design and select mechanical components for power distribution systems including switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, motor control centers (MCCs), and enclosures.
Perform thermal analysis and heat transfer calculations to ensure proper cooling and ventilation of electrical equipment.
Develop detailed mechanical drawings and 3D models for power systems layouts using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar design software.
Specify materials, coatings, and finishes for enclosures and support structures based on environmental conditions and load requirements.
Coordinate with vendors and manufacturers to identify and procure appropriate mechanical components and equipment.
Ensure designs comply with relevant industry standards including UL1558, UL891, UL67, UL845, and UL508A.
Support the development and review of electrical control system installation procedures.
Conduct site surveys to evaluate installation feasibility, spatial requirements, and infrastructure constraints.
Prepare technical documentation, reports, and design specifications for project deliverables.
Collaborate with cross-functional project teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical components into electrical automation systems.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Minimum of 2 years of experience designing mechanical systems for power distribution equipment such as switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, or motor control centers.
Strong understanding of UL standards and related electrical equipment certifications such as UL891 or similar.
Proficiency in AutoCAD and 3D design software such as SolidWorks or comparable platforms.
Familiarity with electrical codes and standards related to power systems and industrial equipment.
Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Preferred Skills
Experience working with automation systems or industrial control environments.
Experience performing thermal management analysis for electrical enclosures or power systems equipment.
Knowledge of CSA standards and additional UL certifications related to low-voltage power equipment.
Experience coordinating with vendors or manufacturers for engineered equipment solutions.
Ability to conduct site surveys and support installation planning for power system infrastructure.
Experience working in a fast-paced engineering environment supporting multiple concurrent projects.
