Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a current Louisiana Practical Nurse license, a temporary permit, or a multi-state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) state.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Administers and documents medications in accordance with physician orders, nursing protocols, and facility policies; ensures safe medication practices, monitors for side effects or adverse reactions, and provides patient education regarding prescribed treatments.
  • Prepares, organizes, and assists with multidisciplinary clinical services, including general practice, gynecology, dental, dermatology, and psychiatric clinics. Supports providers during examinations and procedures by setting up equipment, maintaining sterile technique, ensuring patient comfort, and accurately documenting findings and interventions.
  • Conducts routine and targeted patient rounds to observe, assess, and evaluate physical conditions, mental status, and behavioral changes. Identifies patient needs, reports significant findings to supervising clinicians, ensures timely follow-up, and verifies that all care delivered is properly recorded in medical charts in compliance with regulatory and facility standards.

Position-Specific Details:

Appointment Type: JOB APPOINTMENT

  • A job appointment is a temporary job lasting up to four years; however, should a permanent position become available, the employee may be converted to a probational appointment.
  • This position may also be filled as a probational appointment if a non-temporary position becomes available in the recruitment process.
  • If filled by probation, a permanent classified LA State employee, if selected, may be required to accept a probational appointment.

Compensation: This position has a Special Entrance Rate (SER) at each level. However, the salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.

  • Practical Nurse--Licensed 1 has an SER of $19.48 per hour
  • Practical Nurse--Licensed 2 has an SER of $20.84 per hour
  • Practical Nurse--Licensed 3 has an SER of $22.30 per hour

This position also offers premium pay: A rate of $5.00 per hour for each hour worked, in addition to regular pay.

Career Progression Group: PRACTICAL NURSE--LICENSED 1, 2, OR 3

  • Filled at the highest level of experience of the selected applicant.
  • Salary depends on level of experience.
