Job Duties:
- Provides direct nursing care to offenders, including administering medications, performing treatments, monitoring vital signs, and documenting patient responses in accordance with established medical protocols.
- Assists physicians, nurse practitioners, and registered nurses with clinical procedures, examinations, and emergency interventions, ensuring proper preparation, support, and follow-up care.
- Performs advanced practical nursing tasks such as wound care, specimen collection, catheter care, blood glucose monitoring, and other delegated clinical duties requiring enhanced skill and judgment.
- Observes and evaluates patient conditions, reporting significant changes to supervisory medical staff and contributing to ongoing care planning and patient management.
- Maintains accurate and timely medical records, ensuring compliance with facility policies, nursing standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Supports chronic care and specialty clinics, helping coordinate appointments, prepare patients, and assist with ongoing treatment needs.
- Promotes a safe and therapeutic environment by following infection control practices, maintaining secure handling of medical supplies, and adhering to all correctional safety procedures.
- Provides health education and guidance to offenders within the scope of practical nursing practice, reinforcing treatment plans and promoting wellness.
Position-Specific Details:
- Appointment Type: CLASSIFIED WAE. Incumbents in these positions may not work more than 1,245 hours or 1 year, whichever comes first.
- This position is a 'when actually employed' (WAE) position without benefits.
