VHCC is accredited by the Southern Association of Schools and Colleges and serves the City of Bristol, Virginia; Washington County, Virginia; and the western portion of Smyth County, Virginia. The college offers comprehensive instruction to more than 3,000 students in occupational-technical areas, college transfer programs, continuing education, developmental education, general education and specialized regional and community service areas

VHCC seeks a dynamic, full‑time faculty member to provide academic leadership and deliver high‑quality instruction for a new evening/weekend cohort in the Practical Nursing program. Other duties include student advising, working with external agencies and facilities, serving on committees, participating in professional activities, and program assessment.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Earned master's degree in nursing from a regionally accredited institution;
  • Active, unexpired Commonwealth of Virginia licensure as a registered nurse with no restrictions (if current licensure is with another state or is not active, applicant must be able to obtain or renew licensure with the Commonwealth of Virginia);
  • At least two (2) years of full-time, direct care experience;
  • Understanding of and belief in the comprehensive mission of community colleges;
  • Expressed willingness to teach in person, online, in a lab setting, or in a clinical during evenings and on weekends.

Rank and Salary: Rank and salary dependent on academic credentials and work experience. The salary range for this position is between $60,000-$80,000 annually.

Position Available: August 16, 2026. This position is grant‑funded with the possibility of renewal. Reappointment is contingent upon performance evaluations, institutional needs, and the availability of ongoing funding.

  • Ability to meet the instruction standards for qualified Master's prepared experienced registered nurse for teaching campus and clinical labs and didactic;
  • Ability to teach assigned evening/weekend classes;

  • Have knowledge of and be able to serve as a faculty advisor, conduct requisite office hours, and conduct student conferences;
  • Ability to serve on assigned college committees and participate in curriculum development;
  • Ability to participate in the accreditation process for the PN program.

Additional Considerations:

  • At least one-year direct care clinical experience in a long-term care setting;
  • Experience teaching didactic and/or clinicals for a PN program;
