Description of Position

The Practical Nursing (PN) Tutor reports to the Director of Allied Health and provides academic support, skills reinforcement, and targeted remediation to students enrolled in the Practical Nursing program. This position plays a key role in promoting student success by delivering individualized and group tutoring sessions, participating in remediation planning, and collaborating closely with faculty to support learning outcomes. The PN Tutor is a Registered Nurse who assists students both in-person and/or online at the PV or Verde campuses, depending on student needs and availability.

Minimum Expectations & Requirements

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group tutoring for PN students in core nursing content, skills, and clinical reasoning.
  • Support students with study strategies, test-taking skills, clinical judgment, and course-specific learning needs.
  • Actively participate in and support student remediation plans, including required follow-up for students who are unsuccessful on exams, assignments, or skills assessments.

Maintain a strong, embedded presence in the program's remediation processes by:

  • Collaborating with faculty to review student performance trends
  • Assisting in writing or updating remediation activities
  • Meeting with students as part of formal remediation requirements
  • Provide tutoring sessions in-person or online, depending on student need and campus location (PV or Verde).
  • Assist in the development of supplemental instructional materials, such as practice questions, review sheets, and skills refreshers.
  • Document tutoring sessions and student progress in accordance with program procedures.
  • Communicate student concerns or trends to the Nursing Program Administrator and faculty.
  • Participate in periodic program meetings related to academic support and remediation processes.
  • Maintain competencies in LPN curriculum content, evidence-based teaching strategies, and program policies.

Preferred Skills & Abilities

Qualifications

Required:

  • Baccalaureate degree with a major in nursing
  • Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license for the State of Arizona
  • Minimum of two years of nursing experience providing direct patient care
  • Ability to support diverse learners through effective communication, coaching, and instructional techniques.
  • Proficiency in basic technology needed for online tutoring (Zoom, LMS platforms, email, etc.).

Preferred:

  • Masters degree with a major in nursing
  • Previous experience in nursing education, tutoring, or precepting.
  • Strong understanding of LPN-level curriculum, clinical skills, and NCLEX-PN test plan expectations.
  • Familiarity with standardized testing (HESI, ATI, or similar).
  • Experience with student remediation or academic coaching.
