    Utilizes the nursing process to provide patient care under the supervision of person(s) licensed by a State regulatory board to prescribe medication and treatment, or under the direction of a Registered Professional Nurse (RN). Maintains professional accountability for provision of patient care for the assigned patients. Coordinates the patient care in conjunction with other departments.

    Mercy is seeking a compassionate and skilled Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team at McAuley Clinic. In this role, you will work collaboratively with providers and care teams to deliver exceptional patient care while supporting Mercy's mission, values, and service standards.

    Position Overview

    The Nurse (LPN/RN) utilizes the nursing process to provide patient care, coordinate services, and support positive patient outcomes. This role maintains professional accountability for assigned patients, collaborates with providers and interdisciplinary team members, and ensures patient rights and confidentiality are upheld at all times.

    RNs may independently assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care, while LPNs provide nursing care under the direction of an RN and/or licensed provider consistent with state regulations and scope of practice.

    Key Responsibilities

    Patient Care

    • Provide compassionate, high-quality nursing care to patients throughout their clinic experience.
    • Perform patient assessments, monitor patient conditions, and communicate significant findings to appropriate team members.
    • Involve patients and family members in care decisions and treatment planning.
    • Assist with admission, discharge, and follow-up care processes as appropriate.
    • Implement and document nursing interventions that promote healing, wellness, and positive patient outcomes.
    • Administer medications, treatments, and procedures according to physician orders, nursing standards, and scope of practice.
    • Perform patient rounding and respond to patient needs in a timely manner.
    • Reinforce and document patient education, discharge instructions, and self-care strategies.

    Care Coordination & Communication

    • Collaborate with providers, nurses, medical assistants, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate care.
    • Communicate patient status, concerns, and changes in condition to appropriate team members.
    • Facilitate effective patient handoffs utilizing established patient safety tools.
    • Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the electronic medical record.
    • Participate in interdisciplinary communication to ensure seamless patient care.

    Quality & Professional Practice

    • Support quality improvement initiatives, process improvement projects, and department meetings.
    • Maintain current competencies, certifications, mandatory education, and annual training requirements.
    • Follow clinic policies, procedures, and evidence-based nursing practices.
    • Participate in professional development activities and education opportunities.
    • Serve as a resource, mentor, or preceptor as appropriate to experience and licensure level.

    Leadership & Teamwork

    • Foster positive working relationships with patients, families, providers, and coworkers.
    • Support department operations and workflow.
    • Delegate and oversee patient care activities as permitted by licensure and scope of practice.
    • Maintain effective communication through appropriate utilization of the chain of command.
    • Perform additional duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Required Education

    RN Candidates:

    • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.

    LPN Candidates:

    • Graduate of an accredited Practical Nursing program.

    Required Licensure

    • Current, valid RN or LPN license in the state of practice.

    Required Certifications

    • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association or ability to obtain within the required timeframe.

    Experience

    • New graduates and experienced nurses are encouraged to apply.

    • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, providers, and coworkers.
    • Ability to remain calm and professional in fast-paced environments.
    • Knowledge of nursing principles, medications, patient education, and safety practices.
    • Basic computer and electronic medical record skills.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Previous clinic, ambulatory, primary care, or specialty practice experience.
    • IV Certification (for LPNs where applicable).
    • Additional specialty certifications as required by department

    About Company

    Our Mercy health system was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1986. But our heritage goes back more than 185 years. It began with an Irish woman named Catherine McAuley, who wanted to help the poor women and children of Dublin. Though Catherine had a modest upbringing, she received an unexpected inheritance that allowed her to fulfill her dreams. In 1827, she opened the first House of Mercy in Dublin, intending to teach skills to poor women and educate children. Many volunteers came to help. A few years later, Catherine founded the Sisters of Mercy, the first religious order not bound to the rules of the cloister, whose Sisters were free to walk among the poor and visit them in their homes. By the time Catherine died in 1841, there were convents in Ireland and England, and in 1843, the Sisters of Mercy came to the United States. In 1871, they traveled to St. Louis and from there throughout the Midwest, beginning what would, today be known as Mercy.
