    Job Description

    Position Overview 

    We are seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to provide pre-operative and post-operative nursing care for patients undergoing outpatient cataract procedures. This is a meaningful opportunity for an LPN to gain exposure to a fast-paced surgical environment where the team is focused on excellent outcomes, patient safety, and concierge-level care. This is a part-time, independent contractor (1099) position working Fridays only in a fast-paced ambulatory surgery environment. 

    The ideal candidate will possess excellent clinical assessment skills, strong patient education abilities, and a commitment to delivering exceptional patient care while ensuring compliance with all safety and regulatory standards. 

    Essential Responsibilities 

    Pre-Operative Care 

    • Perform pre-operative patient assessments and screenings. 
    • Verify patient identity, medical history, allergies, medications, and surgical consent documentation. 
    • Obtain and document vital signs and relevant clinical information. 
    • Prepare patients for cataract procedures according to established protocols. 
    • Administer medications as ordered and within scope of practice. 
    • Provide patient and family education regarding cataract procedures, recovery expectations, and postoperative instructions. 
    • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and surgical staff to ensure patient readiness for scheduled cataract procedures. 

    Post-Operative Care 

    Monitor patients during the immediate recovery period following cataract procedures. 

    • Assess and document vital signs, pain levels, and overall patient status. 
    • Recognize and promptly communicate changes in patient condition. 
    • Provide postoperative care and interventions as directed. 
    • Reinforce discharge instructions with patients and caregivers. 
    • Ensure all required documentation is complete, accurate, and timely. 
    • Facilitate safe discharge of patients in accordance with physician and facility protocols. 

    General Responsibilities 

    • Maintain compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, infection control, and workplace safety standards. 
    • Assist in maintaining a clean, safe, and organized clinical environment. 
    • Support quality assurance and patient safety initiatives. 
    • Promote efficient patient flow and an exceptional patient experience. 
    • Maintain confidentiality of patient information at all times. 
    • Collaborate effectively with providers and team members to ensure smooth cataract procedure operations. 

    Required Qualifications 

    • Current and unrestricted Florida Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license. 
    • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification. 
    • Minimum of one (1) year of clinical nursing experience. 
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. 
    • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with physicians and surgical staff. 
    • Excellent organizational, critical thinking, and documentation skills

    Preferred Qualifications 

    • Experience in ophthalmology, cataract procedures, ambulatory surgery, or outpatient procedural settings. 
    • Experience providing pre-operative and post-operative care for cataract procedures. 
    • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems. 

    Physical Requirements 

    • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. 
    • Ability to assist patients with transfers and ambulation as needed.
    • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally. 
    • Ability to perform duties that require visual attention to detail and frequent patient interaction. 

    Compensation and Schedule

    • Competitive contractor rate. 
    • Independent contractor (1099) position. 
    • Fridays only, with potential opportunities for additional coverage as needed.
