Pre-K Lead Teacher – Afterschool Program

Location: Lower Manhattan, NY
Pay: $20.00–$25.00 per hour
Schedule: Monday–Friday, afternoons
Typical Hours: Approximately 2:00 PM–6:00 PM

About the Role

The Art Farm NYC is seeking an experienced and dependable Pre-K Lead Teacher to lead an afterschool classroom for preschool-aged children.

This position is ideal for someone with experience in Pre-K, preschool, daycare, Head Start, early childhood education, or another structured classroom environment who enjoys creating a warm, organized, and engaging space for young children.

The Lead Teacher is responsible for guiding the daily classroom routine, leading developmentally appropriate activities, supervising children, supporting social-emotional development, and working closely with an Assistant Teacher and program leadership.

What You'll Do

• Lead a classroom of preschool-aged children during the afterschool program.
• Follow an established daily schedule and classroom routine.
• Plan and facilitate age-appropriate activities, including art, science, sensory play, stories, games, and movement.
• Maintain a safe, positive, and well-supervised classroom environment.
• Support children with transitions, snack, play, cleanup, and dismissal.
• Use positive classroom-management and behavior-support techniques.
• Encourage social skills, independence, communication, and positive peer interactions.
• Provide direction and support to an Assistant Teacher.
• Maintain attendance and required classroom documentation.
• Communicate concerns regarding student behavior, development, safety, or health to program leadership.
• Build positive relationships with children, families, school staff, and fellow team members.

What We're Looking For

• Previous experience working with Pre-K or preschool-aged children.
• Experience leading a classroom, group, camp, or early childhood program strongly preferred.
• Background in Early Childhood Education, Education, Child Development, Human Services, or a related field preferred.
• Strong classroom-management and communication skills.
• Ability to create structure while remaining patient, nurturing, and flexible.
• Comfortable working with young children who may need additional support with transitions, emotions, toileting, or other age-appropriate needs.
• Dependable and able to consistently work Monday through Friday during afternoon hours.
• Comfortable collaborating with an Assistant Teacher and program leadership.
