Essex Industries is a multi-site aerospace and defense manufacturer serving military and commercial customers worldwide. We are seeking an experienced Precision Assembler in our Milford, CT facility.

Summary of Job

The Precision Assembler is a mechanical assembly specialist responsible for assembling, troubleshooting, and testing complex aerospace components and subassemblies. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, the ability to interpret technical documentation, and proficiency with precision tools, fixtures, and test equipment. The individual is expected to perform advanced assembly operations and ensure work meets engineering and quality standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform complex mechanical assembly operations using blueprints, engineering specifications, work instructions, ATPs, and specialized tooling.
  • Diagnose mechanical issues, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Perform repairs in accordance with FAA and internal quality guidelines.
  • Consistently complete assemblies within established time standards while maintaining accuracy and workmanship quality.
  • Set up assembly fixtures, tooling, and test equipment for standard and nonstandard operations.
  • Conduct mechanical testing per ATP and accurately document test data.
  • Inspect parts and assemblies from external suppliers and support technical inquiries as needed.
  • Assist cross-functional teams to meet production schedules and resolve assembly-related technical issues.
  • Follow all company policies, safety protocols, and quality standards.
  • Support other production tasks as necessary to meet operational needs.

Required Education & Experience

  • 3–5 years of mechanical assembly, mechanical technician, or similar hands-on aerospace/industrial experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Technical/vocational school training in mechanics, manufacturing, or machining strongly preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered.

Required Skills

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, work instructions, process specifications, and ATPs.
  • Ability to perform measurements, understand tolerances, and use precision measurement instruments.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical systems, work with nonstandard situations, and interpret complex instructions.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to perform fine motor work using both hands for extended periods (1–2 hours).
  • Frequent lifting of 1–10 lbs; occasional lifting up to 20 lbs.
  • Occasional torqueing, power-grasping, and use of force.
  • Periodic standing and walking to transport components for assembly and testing.
