Job Description
A Precision Assembly Technician is responsible for critical tasks related to the production of precision optical and optomechanical systems and subassemblies for various products. The candidate must be able to closely follow technical procedures, read mechanical prints and work instructions, make critical measurements, record technical information, and complete tasks in a timely and efficient manner. This position requires a high proficiency in working with small and sensitive components, bonding compounds, and precision tools. The candidate must be very detail oriented and committed to maintaining the highest quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Perform precision optical and mechanical assembly tasks in accordance with manufacturing procedures
- Perform testing, lens centering, and alignment of optical components and electronic sensors
- Document technical parameters, test and measurement results as needed
- Perform in process measurements and final testing procedures
- Perform incoming inspection on mechanical parts and complete QC documentation
- Work with engineering and other production staff on prototypes and development projects
- Assist with improving assembly and manufacturing procedures to maximize quality and efficiency
- Prepare completed products for shipping
- Comply with all Standard Operating Procedures
- Foster a cooperative and positive work environment
Required Skills
- Using precision hand tools and measuring equipment, such as calipers and drop indicators
- Handling, cleaning, bonding, and working with optical components such as lenses and prisms
- Proficiency in assembling small and delicate parts and complicated systems
- Ability to maintain high quality of work on repetitive tasks
- Proficiency in working with electronic and ESD sensitive materials
- Reading mechanical prints and specifications
- Experience in using optical testing equipment such as centering machines, autocollimators and interferometers is preferred (not required)
- Understanding of basic quality control (QC) principles and procedures in a production environment
- Proficiency in using database, spreadsheet and word processing programs to collect data and document processes
- Maintaining a clean and organized workspace
- Working responsibly with minimal supervision
- Following laboratory safety rules and regulations
- Working cooperatively with others in a small technical team environment
- Being punctual for workdays, assignments, and tasks
Education/Experience
- 2-year technical degree in a relevant field
OR
- 2+ years of experience in production or assembly of optical or precision mechanical/medical instruments
- Preference will be given to candidates experienced in working with optical technology
