A day in the life

You arrive on first shift and review high-precision mold cavity prints. You set up a CNC lathe and milling equipment, dialing in workholding and tooling to exacting standards. You write and edit lathe programs, verify speeds/feeds for steel, stainless, aluminum, and engineering plastics, and run first articles. Throughout the day, you measure parts, troubleshoot, and refine your process until every component hits spec. When needed, you switch gears—surface grind, EDM support, fit and assemble tooling, or complete preventive maintenance to keep the toolroom humming. You document your work, keep your bench spotless, and occasionally hop over to another facility or a customer site to solve a problem firsthand.

What you'll do

• Independently set up and operate lathes, milling machines, and other precision equipment
• Machine and repair high-precision mold cavities and components
• Program CNC lathes; verify and optimize tooling paths, speeds, and feeds
• Inspect parts using precision measurement tools to ensure accuracy
• Troubleshoot machining issues and uphold quality standards
• Perform fitting, assembly, and preventive maintenance on toolroom equipment
• Maintain a clean, organized workspace and complete all required documentation
• Occasional travel to other facilities, customers, or suppliers
• Safely lift and handle up to 35 lbs

Schedule

• Primary first-shift schedule
• Alternate hours or overtime may be required for high-priority projects

What you bring

• Hands-on machine shop experience with manual and CNC lathes and mills
• Required: CNC Lathe Programming experience
• Mastercam programming is a plus
• Surface grinding preferred; EDM experience a plus
• Expertise machining steel, stainless, aluminum, and plastics, including calculating optimal speeds/feeds
• Strongly preferred: experience with rubber/plastics molds; alternatively, experience with casting dies, stamping dies, jigs/fixtures, and other precision components
• Familiarity with lean systems, 6-Sigma, and continuous improvement is a plus
• Clear communication and solid interpersonal skills
• Ability to follow detailed instructions
• Must be able to lift 35 lbs
• Post-secondary machining or tool & die training preferred
