Role summary

Own programming and process development for CNC milling and turning operations, converting customer drawings/specifications into optimized, production‑ready programs and documentation. Drive quality, throughput, and cost efficiency across a dedicated manufacturing cell.

Core responsibilities

  • Program new parts for CNC lathes and mills from customer CAD/models using Mastercam or Hypermill.
  • Create/modify 3D models and 2D drawings from customer inputs.
  • Produce setup sheets; choose cutting tools and holders; define tool offsets and work coordinates.
  • Guide and instruct CNC mill/lathe setups; run prove‑outs and correct programming issues.
  • Troubleshoot process and manufacturing problems; implement improvements for yield and cost.
  • Generate purchase requisitions for tooling and BOM needs.
  • Interface with internal departments to resolve manufacturing issues and support continuous improvement within the QMS.
  • Lead a cell of up to three CNC machines with one direct‑report operator; manage day‑to‑day priorities.
  • Meet delivery commitments while following all safety policies and quality objectives.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required; Associate’s, technical certification, or apprenticeship preferred.
  • 1+ year of CNC programming experience.
  • 4+ years of machining experience (manager‑qualified exceptions possible).
  • Mastercam or Hypermill proficiency; strong general computer literacy.
  • Strong blueprint literacy; working knowledge of GD&T (advanced preferred).
  • Competence with calipers, micrometers, and other machinist gages.
  • Demonstrated problem‑solving ability; dependable, self‑motivated, and adaptable in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Leadership aptitude preferred.
  • Experience with diverse materials including steel, aluminum, stainless, plastics, titanium, copper, ceramic, etc.
  • Required: setup/operation of 3‑axis mills. Preferred: 4‑ and 5‑axis milling; prior CNC machining and setup.
  • Ability to lift 50–75 lbs; sit/stand for long durations; work overtime with a flexible schedule.
