Step Into a Day on the Turning Floor

You clock in, scan your job sheet, and pull raw stock for the next part run. With guidance from a seasoned machinist, you load the material into a CNC lathe, verify offsets, and start the cycle. Throughout the run, you listen for unusual vibration, watch chip formation, and check dimensions using dial calipers, OD/ID micrometers, and gauges. You compare results to blueprints and specs, record your measurements, and keep the machine clean and lubricated before setting up the next job—all while learning the foundations of Mazatrol and safe operation.

What You'll Do

  • Operate CNC lathes to produce metal components under close mentorship.
  • Load bar/slug stock, start cycles, monitor production, and stop machines as required.
  • Watch for tool wear, chatter, or defects and escalate issues promptly.
  • Assist with basic setup tasks: tool changes, offsets, and calibration steps.
  • Learn Mazatrol basics and machine control navigation.
  • Measure parts with calipers, OD/ID mics, and gauges; compare to blueprints/specs.
  • Document production counts and inspection data; follow job travelers and work instructions.
  • Keep the area tidy; clean and lubricate equipment and report malfunctions.

What You Bring

  • High school diploma or GED (trade school/machining coursework is a plus).
  • No prior machining experience required; any mechanical/manufacturing exposure helps.
  • Comfort with basic math (fractions, decimals, tolerances) and willingness to learn blueprint reading.
  • Mechanical aptitude, careful workmanship, and a focus on safety and quality.

The Reality of the Work

  • Stand for extended periods and handle materials typically between 10–50 lbs.
  • Factory setting with noise, cutting fluids, and metal chips.
  • Shift-based schedule with potential overtime.

Skills You'll Build

  • Machine setup fundamentals and tooling know-how.
  • Precision measurement and inspection techniques.
  • CNC programming basics with Mazatrol.
  • Production workflow and quality standards.
  • Shop safety procedures and best practices.

Compensation & Benefits

  • $18.00 per hour
  • Medical, Dental and Vision Plans
  • 401(K) Savings Plan ( Including Company Match )
  • Job Related Training
