Shape precision parts. Elevate quality. Own your craft.
Step onto the floor and into a role where your hands, tools, and judgment come together to make aerospace-grade components. As a Precision Lathe Machinist – CNC/Deburr Specialist, you’ll move fluidly between CNC turning, manual lathe work, and deburring to deliver parts that meet exacting specifications for accuracy, finish, and reliability.
A day in the life
- Review blueprints, engineering drawings, and work instructions to confirm dimensions, tolerances, and machining sequence.
- Set up and operate lathes (CNC and manual) for turning, facing, drilling, threading, and grooving across metals and alloys.
- Select cutting tools and holders, mount and align workpieces using appropriate fixtures/clamps, establish zeros and offsets, and validate your first-piece.
- Dial in speeds, feeds, and depth of cut; watch tool wear, surface finish, and chip control; adjust on the fly to sustain accuracy and efficiency.
- Measure critical features with micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and gauges; verify parts meet all tolerances before release.
- Deburr and finish components to exact requirements while protecting critical edges and surfaces.
- Keep machines in peak condition with routine cleaning, lubrication, and tooling changes.
- Partner with engineers, teammates, and supervisors to troubleshoot issues and continuously refine processes.
What you’ll bring
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Background as a Lathe Operator or similar manufacturing role (preferred).
- Strong print-reading skills—blueprints, drawings, and technical specs—translating design intent into reliable setups.
- Proficiency using precision metrology tools (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, gauges) to confirm part dimensions and tolerances.
- Knowledge of cutting tool geometry and selection for specific materials and operations.
- Hands-on capability with turning, facing, drilling, threading, and grooving techniques.
- Experience performing routine maintenance on lathes (cleaning, lubrication, tooling changes).
Technical stack you’re comfortable with
- Equipment troubleshooting and root-cause thinking
- CNC tooling selection and application
- CNC programming fundamentals
- CNC machine setup and changeover
- Aerospace manufacturing standards
- Manual machining best practices
