    Description

Precision Manual Machining Specialist — Heavy Rotating Equipment

    Location: Moody, AL (On-site, 100%)

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 6:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. with overtime as needed (weekdays, occasional weekends)

    A day in the life

Sunrise at our Moody, AL shop floor finds you reviewing a blueprint for a large Liquid Ring Vacuum Pump component. You select the right cutting tools, dial in speeds and feeds, and set up a large vertical or horizontal lathe. With an eye for precision, you hold tolerances down to 0.0005 in. You confirm critical dimensions using micrometers, vernier calipers, dial indicators, bore/depth/height gauges, and feeler gauges. Between runs, you coordinate lifts and rigging, safely operating the overhead crane and forklift to maneuver heavy, complex components.

Through the day, you contribute to the repair and overhaul of large Liquid Ring Vacuum Pumps and compressors—assisting with disassembly, reassembly, and rebuilds. You keep EH&S and QMS practices front and center, troubleshoot variables using 5 Whys, and share updates with the team and supervisor. When customer deadlines call, you stay late to finish a critical pass or make an in-process offset adjustment.

    What you will do

    • Set up and operate large vertical and horizontal lathes for repair/overhaul of Liquid Ring Vacuum Pumps and compressors.
    • Interpret blueprints/drawings; verify critical dimensions and specifications.
    • Maintain ultra-tight tolerances, at times to 0.0005 in.
    • Select appropriate cutting tools for various metals; determine proper speeds/feeds to achieve surface finish.
    • Safely operate forklifts and overhead cranes; perform lifting/rigging of heavy components.
    • Assist with disassembly, reassembly, repair, and rebuild of large pump assemblies.
    • Follow all EH&S and QMS procedures; perform other duties as assigned.

    What you bring

    • Demonstrated knowledge of machine setup, controls, and capabilities.
    • 3+ years as a machine operator/machinist.
    • 2+ years reading and interpreting blueprints.
    • 1+ year working on King-style boring mills or VTLs.
    • Proficient with micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, depth/bore/height gauges, feeler gauges, deburring tools, die grinders, drill presses, and overhead lifting equipment.

    Core competencies

    • Prioritize and meet multiple deadlines.
    • Fluent converting between metric and U.S. units.
    • Comfort solving problems with several variables using standard methods (e.g., 5 Whys).
    • Clear communicator in one-on-one and small-group settings with supervisors, customers, and colleagues.

    Preferred

    • HS Diploma or GED (higher education or certificates a plus).
    • Hands-on experience with manual VTLs, boring mills, and horizontal lathes; familiarity with Cincinnati and King brands.
    • Track record setting up and operating manual machines, including tool changes and in-process offset adjustments.
