Join CECO Environmental | Kemco Systems

Since 1966, CECO Environmental has tackled complex industrial challenges in air, water, and energy transition. As part of our Kemco Systems brand, you’ll help deliver specialized water solutions that safeguard people, equipment, and the planet. If you’re driven by craftsmanship and purpose, this role puts your skills to work for a cleaner, safer, more sustainable future.

A day in this role

You’ll start by reviewing detailed blueprints and planning the smartest cuts to minimize scrap. Your hands-on day flows from setting up a hydraulic press brake to rolling material from 20 gauge to 1/4" plate, then shearing with precision. You’ll fit, tack, and MIG weld stainless and carbon steel from 20 gauge up to 3/8" plate, smoothing seams and verifying tolerances. Some builds take you inside small tanks through an 18" round manway to weld in confined spaces—accuracy and safety always first.

What you’ll do

  • Interpret and work from drawings/blueprints with strong print-reading skills.
  • Apply shop math (fractions/decimals), use tape measures, levels, squares, and layout tools.
  • Set up and operate a hydraulic press brake to form a range of sheet and plate components.
  • Set up and operate plate rolls (materials from 20 ga to 1/4" plate).
  • Set up and operate a sheet metal shear; determine optimal cutting patterns to reduce waste.
  • MIG weld stainless and carbon steel from 20 ga to 3/8" plate.
  • Learn and perform forming for pressed elbows, gorelocked elbows, collars, sleeves, tee branches, reducers, and more.
  • Perform welding in tight, enclosed tanks entered via an 18" manway; frequent climbing in/out using ladders and similar devices is required. This role is not suitable for individuals with claustrophobia.
  • Contribute to assembly, inspection, finishing, and repair; other duties as assigned.

What you bring

  • High school diploma or GED required; Trade/Technical School credential preferred.
  • 5+ years of sheet metal fabrication experience (20 ga to 3/8" thick).
  • Solid mechanical aptitude and reliability; punctual and self-directed.
  • Ability to read assembly prints/procedures and use measuring/layout tools accurately.
  • Team-first mindset and the ability to collaborate with a diverse crew.

Preferred

  • Completion of a welding program (e.g., PTECH).
  • Current welding certifications.

Very Heavy Work: Exerting more than 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or more than 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or more than 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, intense noises, and travel. The facility is not air conditioned. Incumbents must be able to weld in tight spaces, 18 inch circumference.
