Step into a Day as Our Precision Wire EDM Programmer & Setup Specialist

Your morning starts at a Mitsubishi or Sodick wire EDM station. You open Mastercam, load a program, and fine-tune parameters to hold exacting tolerances from ±0.0002 to ±0.001. With the print in hand, you interpret complex drawings and GD&T callouts, choose the correct wire and settings, and set up fixtures or a hole popper as needed to prepare for a precise cut.

What Your Day Looks Like

Programming & Setup

  • Build and edit Mastercam programs to produce high-precision parts.
  • Define machine parameters to optimize speed, finish, and accuracy.
  • Interpret technical drawings and specifications with close-tolerance requirements.
  • Select appropriate wire electrodes, prep hole popper operations, and configure Wire EDM fixtures.

Production & Monitoring

  • Operate Mitsubishi and Sodick wire EDM machines to meet exact specifications.
  • Continuously monitor the machining process to ensure accuracy and surface quality.
  • Troubleshoot issues in-process, adjusting feeds, speeds, and pathing to maintain target tolerances.

Inspection & Quality

  • Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances using micrometers, calipers, depth micrometers, and other precision gages.
  • Document and confirm that every part meets specified tolerances and quality standards.

Upkeep, Safety & Teamwork

  • Keep equipment in optimal condition and the work area clean and organized.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including PPE use (safety glasses with side shields; hearing protection as required).
  • Collaborate with engineers, toolmakers, operations, and Admin-CSR to move jobs forward.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and assist with related machining processes when needed.

What You Bring

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 5–10 years of solid experience setting up and running wire EDM equipment.
  • Proven ability to work from complex prints and hold close tolerances (±0.0002 to ±0.001).
  • Experience with low-volume, high-mix production.
  • Strong GD&T interpretation skills.
  • Hands-on experience with precision gages and measuring equipment.
  • Your own tools (e.g., micrometers, calipers, depth micrometer, etc.).

How We Work Together

  • Reports to the Operations Supervisor.
  • Works closely with operations, engineering, and Admin-CSR, interacting across multiple levels of the organization.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Periods of sitting, standing, and walking on level surfaces.
  • Reaching above shoulder height and below waist level; occasional lifts up to 50 lbs.
  • Pushing/pulling up to 150 lbs of force may be required.
  • Manufacturing environment with ambient room temperatures, standard lighting, and traditional shop equipment.
  • PPE required: safety glasses with side shields; hearing protection may be needed under certain conditions.

If you take pride in turning complex drawings into flawless parts and enjoy owning precision from program to part, you’ll thrive here.
