Preconstruction Manager

Position Summary: Barnhart is seeking a Preconstruction Manager to lead planning and pursuit efforts for complex heavy lift, transportation, rigging, and industrial construction projects. This role works closely with customers and internal teams to develop competitive solutions, manage project pursuits, coordinate estimating and planning activities, and support successful project execution.

Responsibilities

• Lead preconstruction efforts for large capital projects from opportunity identification through project handoff.
• Coordinate cross-functional teams including sales, engineering, project management, estimating, and operations.
• Collaborate with customers, contractors, and internal stakeholders to define project scope, schedule, logistics, and execution requirements.
• Develop pursuit strategies, preliminary execution plans, schedules, resource plans, and budgets.
• Support proposal development, pricing reviews, customer presentations, and contract discussions.
• Identify and communicate project risks related to safety, schedule, logistics, labor, equipment, and execution.
• Ensure awarded projects are successfully transitioned to project execution teams.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in industrial construction, heavy lift, heavy transport, rigging, EPC, or large capital projects.
• Experience leading cross-functional teams in preconstruction, estimating, project management, or business development roles.
• Strong understanding of project planning, constructability, logistics, budgeting, and risk management.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, schedules, and project documentation.
• Strong communication and presentation skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with estimating, scheduling, or project management software is preferred.
• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field preferred.
