Position Summary
As a Preconstruction Manager - Substation, you will be responsible for maintaining and promoting a strong safety culture for all employees, vendors, and customers while adhering to all safety and environmental policies, procedures, and regulations.
As part of the preconstruction process, you will perform site visits to evaluate access, layout, and constructability in coordination with clients and stakeholders. You will identify project risks, determine optimal construction methodologies, sequencing, and schedules, and participate in estimating meetings by developing and validating labor, equipment, and production rates for high-voltage substation construction activities.
This role supports estimating efforts by providing detailed input on manpower, equipment, procurement strategies, outage requirements, and temporary facilities needed to complete large-scale substation projects. Responsibilities may also include collaborating with Superintendents, General Foremen, and Foremen to plan work, crews, tools, and equipment for efficiency and minimized mobilization time. You will work closely with Project Engineers and Project Managers to align scope, update schedules, and support project execution readiness.

What it takes:
High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 7 years of relevant substation construction experience, including high-voltage AIS and/or GIS substations (115kV, 230kV, 345kV and above)
Experience delivering large-scale EPC substation projects
OSHA 30 or other safety training course
Must possess a valid driver license for the type(s) of vehicles which may be driven, and an acceptable driving record as determined by the Michels Review Team
Competent with Microsoft Office Suite
Desired Qualifications:
Experience with grounded grid systems, foundations, steel erection, buswork, breakers, transformers, and control houses
Ability to work with advanced computer software
Experience estimating large projects in terms of value and duration
