Prep ASC Math and Science Teacher

Position Description
Position Title: Prep ASC Math and Science Teacher Department: Prep Reports To: Director ASC FLSA Classification: Exempt FTE (Full-Time Equivalent): 100% FTE Salary: $82,000- $173,502 annually depending upon level of education and experience Position Purpose: Responsible for helping students with documented learning differences to access science and math content
Specific Expectations for Prep Faculty: In addition to regular duties, the following duties and responsibilities are expected as part of the faculty workload: holding office hours, proctoring exams, and attendance of, or participation in, mandatory meetings and/or events (e.g. Director's Day, open houses, Mass), as required and directed by your supervisor. All employees will be paid appropriately and according to current law and SHS policy
Essential Functions
- Mentors students in usage of their accommodations.
- Teaches students one-on-one and in small groups in math and science content areas.
- Supports students in developing their executive functioning skills.
- Works collaboratively with teachers to implement students' learning support plans.
- Proctors in the Testing Center, as needed.
- Attends family-educator meetings, as needed.
- Maintains accurate records, including daily attendance and noteworthy student observations.
- Uses effective classroom management techniques to maintain a positive, productive learning environment for all.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- BA in the appropriate area of emphasis. Master's degree or post-graduate work in education with emphasis in varied exceptionalities or learning disabilities and experience working with students with mild/moderate learning differences, preferred.
- Strong knowledge in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. Math expertise through at least Algebra 2, preferred.
- Strong ability to build rapport with students through kindness, positivity, and clear expectations.
- Ability to support students' well-being and overall health.
- Strong understanding or willingness to learn how the community/cultural norms impact the way students feel on a daily basis.
- Willing and able to interact professionally and collaboratively with the ASC team, parents, students, and faculty.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to mentor and coach executive functioning skills.
- Strong teaching ability, with evident commitment to equity, inclusion, and Universal Design for Learning (UDL).
- Proficient in using computers, including intermediate knowledge of Google Workspace (formerly G Suite) and Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent verbal and written skills in English, as well as outstanding interpersonal skills. Additional skills in Spanish are valued and preferred.
- A clear commitment to the educational philosophy of the school as articulated in the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Schools and professional behavior based on it.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Works in an often highly stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts
- Demonstrated excellent attendance and punctuality.
- May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time.
- Work primarily in a traditional climate controlled classroom environment and intermittently in outside weather conditions, including heat and cold typical to the Mid-Peninsula in the Bay Area.
- Be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs. and regularly travel safely and comfortably over a 63 acre campus
- Available and willing to attend and work some evenings/weekends and on occasional overnight trips.
- Abide by school's current safety policies (ex: wearing masks, washing hands, etc.)
