Prep Cook

About Us

SaltWater Grill is a family friendly full-service seafood restaurant. We are looking for

a reliable Prep Cook to help our kitchen run smoothly, keep quality consistent,

and support the line during service.

The Role

The Prep Cook prepares ingredients, portioned items, and mise en place according to

recipes and food-safety standards. This role works closely with the kitchen

team so cooks can execute tickets quickly and guests receive consistent food.

Responsibilities

•      Wash, peel, chop, slice, dice, and portion produce, proteins, and other ingredients according to specs.

•      Prepare sauces, dressings, and batch items as directed.

•      Label, date, rotate, and store food using FIFO and restaurant procedures.

•      Follow recipes, portion guides, and prep lists to maintain consistency and control waste.

•      Keep prep areas, cutting boards, knives, and equipment clean and sanitized throughout the shift.

•      Monitor inventory of prep items and notify a supervisor when product is low or past quality standards.

•      Support the line during busy periods with restocking, plating assistance, or simple cook tasks as trained.

•      Follow all health-department, HACCP, and company food-safety rules.

•      Work safely with knives, slicers, mixers, and other kitchen equipment.

•      Communicate clearly with chefs, line cooks, and dishwashers about timing and product needs.

•      Perform other kitchen duties as assigned.

Requirements

•      Prior kitchen, prep, or food-service experience preferred; we will train the right candidate.

•      Ability to follow recipes, verbal instructions, and written prep lists.

•      Basic knife skills and comfort working at a steady pace.

•      Knowledge of food-safety basics, food-handler certification required.

•      Reliable attendance and ability to work (days and/or nights)

•      Ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and work in a hot, fast kitchen.

•      Team-first attitude, clean work habits, and attention to detail.

•      Must be legally authorized to work and able to provide required documentation.

•      Must be at least 18 years of age, depending on local labor laws and equipment used.

Schedule and Pay

•      Employment type: Full-time or Part-time

•      Typical hours: mornings 9 a.m.– 4 p.m., or 5 p.m. – 11p.m

•      Pay: based on experience.

•      Overtime may be available during busy seasons.
