Here's a summary of responsibilities:

Assists Food & Nutrition Services Department in multiple areas including food preparation, stocking dining room, dishwashing, and general cleaning of kitchen and dining room. Supports the Sous Chef by prepping as needed for service, working stations during service including grill and omelet stations, and serving food to athletes. Maintains and monitors food service areas, ensuring the highest level of products and service are readily available in a clean and well-maintained kitchen, and dining room. Take pride in the overall appearance of the Kitchen and Dining area. Lead by example.  

Here’s how you’ll have an impact:

  • Assist by prepping produce for both the recipes and the salad bar as directed by Sous Chef or Executive Chef.
  • Follow standards for food production and proper food handling. Follow menu rotation provided by the Executive Chef. 
  • Ensure that food safety is maintained by following proper food holding and temperature logging.
  • Immediately report all general maintenance and equipment malfunctions to the Executive Chef or Sous Chef. 
  • Responsible for training and assisting new staff in the proper maintenance and use of equipment.
  • Spray off dishes, load, run, and unload the dishwasher with utensils, glassware, cookware, plates, and trays in a fast and efficient manner.
  • Ensure all dishes, cooking pans, and utensils are clean and sanitized before they are put away on dish racks or used by your fellow team members.
  • Maintain the dishwasher to make sure it is clean and organized and that the wash cycle is always sanitary and operating at peak performance.
  • Sweep and mop the dish room, kitchen floors, and dining room at the end of each shift to maintain safety and sanitation.
  • Ensure all areas of the dining department are kept neat and clean including dishes, floors, trash, work areas, walls, floors, stock rooms, coolers, and overall cleanliness of equipment.
  • Clean sneeze guards daily.
  • Utilize and understand the 3-bay sink system for handwashing dishes as necessary.
  • Remove garbage from the dining room and kitchen areas regularly to maintain a clean atmosphere.
  • Assist with hospitality/special events as needed.  Assist in any other areas of production as necessary to ensure that demand for athlete services is met. 
  • Participate with daily team briefings.
  • Take the initiative to suggest improvements to the operating format, communicate ideas about improving and maintaining standards in your area.
  • Report all incidents/accidents to management immediately.  Complete necessary documentation.
  • Follow policies and procedures for HACCP, USOPC, OPTC, and the dining department.  Comply with OSHA and Health Department food safety regulations. Uphold USOPC policies.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor; is punctual, neat, and clean in appearance.
  • Show respect for equipment, utensils, and supplies.
  • Build and maintain good working relationships with all members of the Food & Nutrition Services team. Contributes to a positive environment.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Here are the skills and experience you'll need to be effective:

  • High School graduate or G.E.D., with ability to read, write and comprehend at a 12th grade level minimum
  • ServSafe certified preferred
  • Must have a reliable form of transport to get to and from work
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in cleaning and maintaining a professional kitchen preferred
  • Food production and handling, with knowledge of nutrition on related food production is a plus
  • Knowledge of proper use of chemicals. Follow OSHA regulations.
  • General knowledge of the care and safe usage of food service equipment and kitchen utensils - Ability to be trained and certified on operation of equipment found in a commercial kitchen.
  • Ability to read recipes and understand measurements.
  • Ability to display good customer service skills to both internal and external customers.
  • Leads by example - able to communicate effectively and is a trusted team player.
  • Maintains confidentiality on USOPC and department matters. 
  • Well groomed, always demonstrates good personal hygiene.
  • Dependable, organized, and demonstrates attention to detail. Completes all work assignments.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure.

Here are the tools, equipment, & conditions:

  • Ability to work flexible schedules of various shifts including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Adapt to change in a positive manner to support the USOPC Mission and its departments.
  • Exposed to extreme temperature working conditions.
  • Prolonged standing, minimal sitting.
  • Various repetitive motions included but not limited to bending, kneeling, and reaching, and the ability to lift 50 pounds using the buddy system.
  • Exposure to chemicals and use in compliance with OSHA guidelines
  • Ability and desire to do whatever it takes to successfully meet USOPC and department mission.
  • Shared workspace.
  • Commercial kitchen utensils and equipment

Here's some more information you need to know:

  • Hiring pay range $18.50 - $18.50 per hour.
  • This Full-Time, Non-Exempt position is intended to work 40 hours per week.
  • Bonus: This position will be eligible for the Annual Incentive Award Program, which has a 5% target. The USOPC may change or eliminate this program at any time at its sole discretion.
