Prep Cook

The Staten Island Workforce1 Career Center is partnering with Applebee's to find qualified candidates for a Prep Cook in Staten Island, New York. Applebee's is a U.S.-based casual dining restaurant chain known for its American-style menu and relaxed, neighborhood-themed atmosphere. The restaurant serves a variety of burgers, steaks, pasta, salads, chicken dishes, appetizers, and beverages, offering affordable, sit-down dining in a family-friendly setting.

The Prep Cook is responsible for preparing ingredients according to established recipes and quality standards to ensure the kitchen is ready for service. This role washes, cuts, measures, and portions ingredients, stocks workstations, labels and stores food properly, and maintains a clean and organized work area. The Prep Cook works closely with the kitchen team to support efficient food preparation while following food safety and sanitation procedures to help deliver consistent, high-quality meals.

This position is located in Staten Island, New York.

• Prepare ingredients by washing, cutting, measuring, and portioning food according to recipes and kitchen standards.
• Assist cooks with food preparation and ensure ingredients are ready for service.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen workspace.
• Follow food safety, sanitation, and proper food handling procedures.
• Store and label food items correctly to maintain freshness and quality.
• Monitor inventory levels and communicate when supplies need to be replenished.
• Work efficiently with kitchen team members to support timely food service.
• Follow Applebee's standards for food quality, consistency, and cleanliness.

• Must have at least 6 months of recent prep cook, kitchen, food preparation, or restaurant experience.
• Knowledge of food preparation and basic cooking techniques.
• Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards.
• Ability to measure, portion, and follow recipes accurately.
• Ability to maintain a clean and organized kitchen workspace.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
• Strong teamwork, communication, attention to detail, and commitment to food quality.
