Preschool Assistant Teacher

Summary: An assistant teacher at The Newtown Discovery Preschool is responsible for working with a lead teacher and in conjunction with the entire faculty to establish and maintain a safe, healthy and nurturing learning environment.

Job Type: Full-Time/Part-Time

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist the Lead Teacher to create and deliver lesson plans, implement school curriculum, and assess developmental needs of students.

• Manage and participate in a variety of learning activities that provide opportunities for children to develop to their fullest potential and achieve their learning goals.

• Present lessons in a nurturing, curiosity-driven environment that fosters the appropriate developmental stages in children's lives.

• Assist the lead teacher in implementing activities and curriculum that will support and develop self-esteem and social skills.

• Assist children with meal times and clean-up.

• Maintain a healthy and safe environment.

• Communicate on a daily basis with children, parents and staff in a positive, professional manner.

• Participate collaboratively and professionally with other teachers and staff to promote the general well being of the school, and collective/individual interest of its staff and student body.

• Positively interact with students to meet the individual needs to support play, exploration, and learning.

• Attend and participate in staff meetings, parent meetings, and other meetings upon request.
