Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as a Preschool Bus Aide at Wauseon Exempted Village School District. This full-time position is essential in ensuring the safety and well-being of our preschool students during transportation to and from school. The ideal candidate will possess a nurturing attitude, strong communication skills, and a commitment to fostering a positive and supportive environment for young children.
This position is for the 2026-2027 school year.
4.5 hours per day - Tuesday through Friday
- 6:45 a.m. - 8:00 a.m., 10:15 - 12:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m.- 3:30 p.m.

Responsibilities
- Assist the bus driver in ensuring the safe loading and unloading of preschool students at designated stops.
- Supervise children during transit to ensure their safety and well-being.
- Maintain a calm and positive demeanor while managing children's behavior on the bus.
- Communicate effectively with children, parents, and school staff regarding any concerns or issues that may arise.
- Provide assistance to children with special needs, if applicable, ensuring they receive the necessary support during transportation.
- Conduct safety checks on the bus before and after routes, reporting any issues to the appropriate personnel.
- Help children with seat belts and other safety restraints as needed.
- Foster a friendly and welcoming atmosphere on the bus to promote a positive experience for all students.
- Attend training sessions and meetings as required to stay informed about safety protocols and best practices.
- Collaborate with the transportation team and school staff to address any transportation-related concerns or needs.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience working with young children, preferably in an educational or childcare setting.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage positively with children and adults.
- Ability to remain calm and composed in challenging situations.
- Knowledge of safety procedures and emergency protocols related to school transportation.
- Must pass a BCI and FBI background check and meet State Board of Education licensing requirements for school bus aides.
- CPR and First Aid certification is preferred or must be obtained within a specified timeframe.
- Ability to lift and assist children as needed, including those with mobility challenges.
- Reliable and punctual, with a commitment to maintaining a consistent schedule.
