Preschool Teaching Assistant

Position Overview: North Vermillion Elementary School is seeking a caring, dependable, and energetic individual to serve as a Preschool Teaching Assistant. The successful candidate will help provide a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment where young children can learn, grow, and develop.

This is a hands-on and active position that requires someone who enjoys working with young children and is comfortable assisting with both instructional and personal care needs.

Primary Responsibilities

• Assist the preschool teacher with daily classroom activities and routines.
• Provide a safe, caring, and loving environment for all students.
• Support students with classroom expectations, routines, and transitions.
• Assist with classroom management and redirect student behavior as needed.
• Help students develop appropriate social, emotional, and behavioral skills.
• Assist students with personal care needs, including diapering and toileting.
• Participate in learning activities, play, centers, small groups, and other classroom experiences.
• Supervise students and maintain awareness of their safety and well-being at all times.
• Assist with preparing and maintaining an organized and welcoming classroom environment.
• Work cooperatively with the preschool teacher, school staff, and families.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the classroom teacher or administration.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Previous experience working with young children is preferred.
• Experience in a preschool, childcare, classroom, or similar setting is preferred.
• Must be comfortable with diapering, toileting, and other personal care responsibilities.
• Must be energetic, patient, dependable, and able to work as part of a team.
• Must be able to remain active throughout the school day, including standing, walking, bending, sitting on the floor, and assisting young children as needed.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Must be willing and able to redirect students in a positive and supportive manner.
• Must successfully pass a required background check and meet all employment requirements.
