Press Helper

Position Summary

North Shore Steel is seeking a motivated and dependable Press Helper to join our fabrication team in Houston. This position plays a critical role in supporting Press Brake Operators by assisting with material handling, production preparation, quality verification, and workflow coordination. The ideal candidate enjoys hands-on work, thrives in a manufacturing environment, and has a strong desire to learn and develop new skills.

General Description

This position reports directly to the Production Supervisor and serves as a key support role within the Press Brake department. The Press Helper assists Press Brake Operators with material preparation, machine setup activities, part handling, quality checks, and production support to ensure safe, efficient, and accurate manufacturing operations.

Primary Duties

• Assist Press Brake Operators with daily production activities.
• Load, unload, stage, and move raw materials and finished products safely throughout the work area.
• Verify material grades, sizes, thicknesses, and quantities against work orders and production documentation.
• Assist with machine setup activities, tooling changes, and production preparation.
• Measure parts using tape measures, squares, calipers, and other measuring devices to verify conformance to specifications.
• Support quality inspections and communicate any concerns to the Press Brake Operator or Supervisor.
• Remove finished parts from the machine and prepare them for the next operation or shipment.
• Assist with overhead crane operations and material movement when properly trained and authorized.
• Maintain production flow by ensuring operators have the materials, tooling, and support needed to meet production schedules.
• Follow all safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Assist with routine equipment cleaning and basic preventive maintenance activities.
• Participate in safety meetings, training sessions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

• Must be able to work day shift with a start time of 6 a.m., Monday- Friday, and Saturday/Sundays as required.

Physical Requirements

• Routinely lift and handle materials weighing up to 50 lbs. independently and safely as part of assigned job duties.
• Stand and walk for extended periods, including on concrete floors and uneven surfaces.
• Frequently bend, stoop, squat, reach, push, pull, lift, and position materials or equipment as required by the job.
• Use hands, arms, shoulders, and back to safely operate tools, handle materials, and perform lifting, reaching, and positioning tasks.
• Safely work in an industrial and warehouse environment with exposure to noise, dust, moving equipment, and varying temperatures.
• Safely identify workplace hazards, read and record measurements, inspect materials, and respond appropriately to verbal instructions, alarms, warning signals, and hand signals.
• Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) throughout the shift, which may include safety glasses, hard hat, gloves, hearing protection, safety footwear, and other job-specific PPE.
