PRESS OPERATOR (FLEXOGRAPHIC PRINTING) - NIGHT SHIFT

Rome, GA (Northwest Georgia) | Full-time, direct hire

Schedule: 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM, 3/2 rotating schedule | $1.50/hour night shift differential

Pay: $23 to $30/hour depending on experience (press apprentice to full operator)

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

A manufacturing company in Rome, GA is adding a Press Operator to its night shift. You will safely run, set up and care for wide web flexographic printing presses and lead the press assistants on your crew, with a focus on print quality, low waste and continuous improvement.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

- Read and follow the daily press schedule to meet production needs

- Set up each job efficiently with as little waste as possible, and record run condition reports for every job

- Read and understand the customer order and artwork

- Track setup, downtime and run time on the production report and in the shop floor system (Axapta)

- Scan and process all materials going on and coming off the machine

- Run each order as quickly and efficiently as quality allows

- Mark or flag all press stops, splices and misprints, and keep an accurate flag report for each roll

- Remove and properly dispose of flying splices and defects on the rewind or master roll

- Monitor print quality during the run using the automatic defect detection system (AVT)

- Keep the press and surrounding area clean, and report any mechanical issues during the shift

- Prepare and direct the press assistant in staging the next job, and hold assistants accountable

- Help train others on any or all press responsibilities

- Legibly and accurately complete required documentation and daily log books

WHAT YOU NEED

- High school diploma or GED

- 5+ years of wide web flexographic printing experience

- Ability to read product layout sheets and artwork, and judge good vs. bad print against artwork, PLS, work order, separations and color master

- Working knowledge of the quality checklist and a spectrodensitometer

- Ability to perform, teach and direct the essential functions of all press positions

- Read a tape measure to 1/32" and add, subtract, multiply and divide using whole numbers, fractions and decimals

- Read, write and speak English well enough to keep daily logs and communicate quality or production issues (Spanish bilingual helpful, not required)

- Basic computer and typing skills

WORK ENVIRONMENT

- Stand and walk 10 to 12 hours on concrete and uneven surfaces; bend, kneel and squat regularly

- Lift and move 50 to 75 lbs; move 55-gallon drums with a two-wheel dolly

- Close, peripheral and color vision; able to hear warning bells and forklifts

- Production floor with moving forklifts, mechanical parts, cleaning chemicals, inks, fumes, noise, and hot or cold conditions

- Safety glasses, safety shoes, hair and beard nets, earplugs and cutting gloves required in the press area
