Pressure Vessel & Piping Mechanical Engineer (PE), ASME Section VIII
What your workday looks like
Morning begins on our Morristown, TN campus—45 minutes northeast of Knoxville—where Precision Boilers designs and builds electric and fuel‑fired hot water boilers, steam generators, and accessories like deaerators and blowdown tanks. You’ll review overnight RFQs with Sales, open SolidWorks to iterate on a pressure vessel layout, and run code calculations before lunch. Afternoons often mean walking the production floor to support inspections, meeting with Quality to uphold our ASME Quality Control System, and stamping final drawings headed to fabrication. You wrap the day collaborating with Mechanical Designers on as‑built updates and noting continuous improvement ideas to streamline tomorrow’s work.
Why this role matters
Founded in 1946, Precision Boilers has a history of invention—from our first sump pump to the industry‑recognized High Voltage Jet (HVJ) Electrode Boiler. We’re growing and launching pioneering products, and we need a licensed Mechanical Engineer who can ensure every pressure vessel, piping system, and component meets the rigor of ASME codes and related standards.
What you’ll do
Own mechanical design and analysis for pressure vessels, piping, and related components.
Prepare and peer‑review engineering calculations, drawings, and specifications.
Lead or support projects from concept through fabrication and inspection, ensuring full compliance with applicable codes and regulatory requirements.
Collaborate daily with Manufacturing, Quality, Project Management, Sales, and vendors.
Serve as PE of record—stamp and approve engineering documents when required.
Guide and mentor junior engineers; act as SME for Mechanical Design questions.
Conduct failure analyses and drive corrective actions.
Translate customer specifications into complete, build‑ready product designs.
Work with Mechanical Designers to select components, maintain BOMs, and manage as‑built revisions.
Create/modify 3D models and 2D drawings in SolidWorks or AutoCAD; advise Designers on SolidWorks best practices.
Perform calculations for tanks and pressure piping components using tools such as Codeware Compress and PV Elite.
Evaluate and qualify new, cost‑effective components with suppliers.
Participate in in‑process inspections across production stages.
Help sustain and improve our ASME Quality Control System.
Champion Continuous Improvement initiatives to boost procedures and efficiency.
Create and update engineering procedures and training materials.
Support Project Management in customer interactions and technical reviews.
