Hood River Garbage, a Waste Connections company, is seeking a dependable Preventative Maintenance Diesel Mechanic to support our fleet operations in Hood River, Oregon. This role heavily focuses on scheduled preventive maintenance inspections and repairs on a diverse fleet of refuse trucks and equipment to ensure safety, reliability, and compliance.
This is a stable, long‑term opportunity for entry to mid-level mechanics looking to grow with an industry leader while working in a safety‑focused, team‑driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance services and mechanical repairs on fleet vehicles and equipment
- Familiarity with Cummins, Paccar, Freightliner and International systems a plus
- Conduct routine safety inspections to ensure compliance with company, DOT, and OSHA standards
- Review and complete repairs identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIRs)
- Complete accurate documentation using fleet maintenance software, including parts usage and labor time
- Communicate clearly with senior mechanic and/or Maintenance Manager regarding required repairs and vehicle status
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
- Perform additional maintenance related tasks as needed. DOE
- Welding experience preferred but not required
Qualifications
- 1+ year of experience in truck or diesel equipment maintenance and repair OR
- completion of an accredited vocational or technical diesel program.
- Entry level individuals will also be considered.
- Must supply basic personal tools and toolbox
- Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR)
- Ability to work safely, follow procedures, communicate effectively, have a positive attitude with the desire to learn and grow in the role
