POSITION: Preventative Maintenance Youth Apprentice
LOCATION: Department of School Facilities
POSITION SUMMARY: Performs preventive maintenance on various types of mechanical equipment throughout Calvert County Public Schools' Facilities, under the supervision and direction of a licensed technician. To assist in the implementation of a maintenance program and carry out all assigned duties. Ensure that all school system buildings and equipment are kept in a condition of operating excellence and full utilization is always available for use.
REPORTS TO: Director of School Facilities, Supervisor of Maintenance, Supervisor of Operations, or designee.

OTHER DUTIES:(Duties listed are not intended to be all inclusive nor limit duties that might reasonably be assigned.)Performs related work as required or assigned by the Director of School Facilities, Supervisor of Maintenance, Supervisor of Operations, or designee.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires moderate physical effort, including lifting and carrying objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds. Position may require long periods of standing and lifting of materials needed to complete assignments.
UNUSUAL DEMANDS: None
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Apprentice assignment. Hours reimbursed at current Maryland State minimum wage rate. If chosen for this position, the candidate is encouraged to enroll in direct deposit.
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the apprenticeship agreement.
EFFECTIVE DATE OF POSITION: July 1, 2026. The position will end on June 30th or once the apprentice has completed 450 on the job hours total.

References must be directly related to educational experience and must include immediate supervisor.
State law requires that anyone hired after October 1, 1986, who will have contact with school children, must be fingerprinted and submit to a criminal background investigation. Federal law requires that a new employee must complete the Employment Eligibility Verification (Form I-9) in person before beginning employment. Employment is conditional upon successful completion of a drug screen. Current employees of the Calvert County Public Schools are exempt from these requirements.
