Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY

Performs routine maintenance on solid waste vehicles. Washes garbage trucks, changes cameras, monitors, and wiring, and changes greasing ports.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

  • Greases, lubricates, and changes oil on light mechanical and non-mechanical equipment, service batteries, and other parts.
  • Changes, repairs, and rotates tires; checks and adjusts brakes, wiper blades, light bulbs, emergency sirens and flashers, and other mechanical parts.
  • Performs minor and less difficult repairs and installation work.
  • Adheres to Citys preventative maintenance schedule; performs routine mechanical checks to prevent minor break downs and catastrophic failures.
  • Performs tire checks on all equipment; measures and installs various tires.
  • Fills vehicles with gasoline and maintains log to track usage.
  • Maintains stock of mounted tires for use on City vehicles; responds to calls to change flat tires in the field.
  • Performs related work as required.

  • Knowledge of modern office procedures and methods including computers and applicable software.
  • Knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Knowledge of service point locations for all light equipment for all City vehicles.
  • Knowledge in specifications of all fluids used on automobiles, wheel, and tire applications for City units.
  • Knowledge of battery specifications for City vehicles.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

  • At least six (6) months of general experience. Experience in preventive service maintenance is preferred.

Valid Licenses and Certifications

  • Valid Texas Driver License. If applicant holds an out-of-state license, a State of Texas Driver License must be obtained within 6 months of employment.

As part of the minimum requirements for all positions with the City of Laredo, a thorough background check and certified school transcripts will be required from all applicants who are offered employment.

Effective February 24, 1997, all selected applicants are required to undergo a drug and alcohol test prior to employment.
