Preventative Maintenance Technician – 1st Shift, Direct Hire (Columbia City, IN)

Position Overview

The preventative maintenance technician ensures optimal operation of plant machinery, mechanical and electrical equipment, and associated functions. This company has a diverse set of machines to be involved with material handling, agricultural, power generation, and defense industries. The role is full-time and provides full-time health / vision / dental benefits, PTO, etc. This role reports to the maintenance supervisor.

Work environment is within a 289,000 sq. ft. facility and is climate controlled!

Shifts Available:

  • 1st Shift, 10-12 hr. shifts (45 hrs./wk.)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure your own safety by always using designated personal protective equipment (PPE) and tools designed and rated for the task(s), complying with safety regulations, and maintaining a clean and organized work space
  • Report to work on time to support production startup and throughput goals
  • Read and understand work instructions
  • Repairing or replacing defective equipment or parts
  • Performing preventive measures for safeguarding all machinery against any kind of degradation on and as needed basis
  • Inspection, operation, and recording of maintenance work and their costs
  • Cleaning and lubricating parts and / or machines as needed
  • Maintaining overall cleanliness and proper functioning of the tool crib and maintenance areas as well as tools and other materials used
  • Paint and repair physical building(s) as required and / or needed
  • Using forklift, hand-lift, or other hoist equipment
  • Using hand tools, electrical saws, drills, grinders, hydraulic, or pneumatic powered tools safely based on IOSHA and standard industry guidelines
  • Reporting all equipment failures, machine guarding issues and /or other safety issues to CEO, and/or General Manager, or others that need to know as needed
  • Loading or unloading materials manually off or onto pallets, platforms, skids, or lifting devices
  • Consulting, working, and coordinating with supervisors, managers, equipment manufacturers, and employees as required
  • Performing other duties as assigned
  • Maintaining correct storage procedures and labeling for hazardous equipment, tools, gas, welding, compressed air tanks, and other materials as required

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Willing and able to work past scheduled hours when necessary
  • Must have good math, reading, and writing skills
  • Good problem solving and root cause skill
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to articulate and comprehend complex environments
  • Works well alone and in a team environment

Education and Experience

  • 1 year experience using Lean Manufacturing Tools
  • Knowledge and experience with forklifts; willing and able to receive forklift certification
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Nice to Have

  • Hands-on experience with CNC machines
