Job Title: Preventative Maintenance Technician – Heavy Equipment (CDL Required)
Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Preventative Maintenance Technician to perform routine inspection, servicing, and minor repairs on heavy equipment and fleet vehicles. This role focuses on preventing breakdowns, extending equipment life, and ensuring safe, compliant operation. The ideal candidate holds a valid CDL with Tanker and HazMat endorsements and is comfortable working in field and shop environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on heavy equipment, trucks, and support vehicles
- Inspect engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, brakes, suspensions, and fuel systems
- Change fluids, filters, belts, hoses, and other wear components
- Identify potential mechanical issues and recommend corrective actions
- Complete maintenance documentation, inspections, and service reports accurately
- Safely operate heavy equipment and commercial vehicles as required
- Transport equipment, materials, or hazardous products in compliance with DOT regulations
- Follow all safety, environmental, and company policies
- Coordinate with maintenance supervisors and operations staff to minimize downtime
- Maintain tools, service vehicles, and work areas in clean, safe condition
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- 2+ years of preventative maintenance experience on heavy equipment or commercial vehicles
- Valid Class A or B CDL
- Tanker and HazMat endorsements (current and in good standing)
- Working knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and mechanical systems
- Ability to read service manuals, inspection checklists, and maintenance schedules
- Strong attention to detail and safety awareness
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical school or vocational training in diesel or heavy equipment maintenance
- DOT inspection certification
- Experience with fleet maintenance programs or CMMS software
- Welding or fabrication experience
Physical & Work Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, and working outdoors
- Willingness to work varied hours, including overtime or on-call as needed
- Ability to pass DOT physical, drug screen, and background check
