Job Summary:

Our Prevention Counselor is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring programs aimed at preventing substance abuse, bullying, and other harmful behaviors among students. This role involves providing counseling services, conducting educational workshops, collaborating with teachers, parents, and community resources, and promoting a safe, healthy, and supportive K-12 school environment.


Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: (Additional duties may be assigned)

A.Client Services:

1.Provide intervention services, including individual, group or family counseling, to students identified as "at risk" for substance abuse/use and related concerns.

2.Provide outreach services to engage students and families who may be unable to access services elsewhere.

3.Maintain client records as required.

4.Conduct assessments at intake to determine each clients/student's individual needs.

5.Develop individualized services plans for each client/student addressing all needs identified at intake, including appropriate support services.

6.Network with other schools or agencies for client services and appropriate referrals.

7.Provide case management services to all clients until the substance use issues are resolved or more appropriate services are identified and the client is successfully referred.

8.Provide follow-up/after care services for clients/students as appropriate.

9.Maintain client confidentiality in accordance with Federal Law.

B.School/Community:

1.Provide outreach services to school and community groups in the form of classroom curriculum, presentations, substance awareness presentations, and/or in-service to faculty or other agencies.

2.Consult with school and/or community agencies as needed.

3.As time permits, be available to the students, parents, faculty and the community at-large.

C.Agency:

1.Attend staff meetings and consultations as well as participate in case conferences.

2.Actively participate in supervision with the Program Director.

3.Compile data on monthly activities.

4.Attend trainings and workshops to keep abreast of current substance use trends, techniques and for skill development.

5.Prepare and develop prevention counseling/education materials.

6.Maintain active professional licensure and certifications by ensuring timely renewals and completing any required continuing education or training. Keep up to date with credentialing requirements and ensure all documentation is current and compliant with organizational and regulatory standards.

7.Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.



Minimum Qualification Standards:
•A Master's Degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology or related field is required.
•A CASAC, CPP, or other NYS recognized QHP status is preferred.
•One year of experience in counseling in a school or social service setting is preferred.
•A valid drivers license is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
•Computer proficiency including word processing, data entry, spreadsheets, and generating reports using standard software applications.
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
•Strong organizational skills including the ability to manage multiple projects and details simultaneously.
•Some analytical ability to gather and input data, find solutions to various administrative problems, and prioritize work.
•Ability to develop and maintain recordkeeping systems and procedures.
•Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials.
•Strong written and oral communication skills to interact with customers, vendors and co-workers in a professional and helpful manner in person or via phone or written correspondence.
•Candidates must possess a valid driver's license and maintain a clean driving record. The position may require occasional driving for meetings, appointments, or representing Delphi Rise in the community.

Equipment, Machines and Software Used:

This position requires the regular use of a computer/iPad, printer, photocopier, telephone, scanner, paper shredder.
Computer Software: Microsoft Office to include Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel, Access, Adobe Acrobat.

Mental and Visual Demand:
Moderate mental and visual attention to perform light administrative work, data entry and/or reading. Requires some judgment in the analysis of facts or conditions regarding individual problems or transactions to determine what action should be taken, within the specifications of standard practice.

Physical Demand:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, perform repetitive hand motion, finger, grasp, handle, feel, push, pull.
