Prevention, Education, and Advocacy Intern Colorado School of Mines Salary: $25.00 Hourly Job Type: Full Time Job Number: GLA-JR106570-5/25 Location: Golden, CO Department Information Engineering a world of possibilities Mines is pleased to announce an opportunity for a part-time internship role working in the Sexual Harassment and Assault Advocacy Prevention & Education (SHAPE) Office in the area of interpersonal violence prevention, education, and confidential resource advocacy, including supporting peer education.In this hands-on position, you will:Serve as a Confidential Resource Advocate for students, including initial meetings with students, referrals, safety planning, sharing campus and community resources, reporting options, resolution options, and ongoing communications for matters of gender-based discrimination, sexual harassment, sexual violence, dating violence, domestic violence, and/or stalking, specifically under Title IX, including maintenance of confidential documentation, referrals, and communications;Work with the Associate Director to provide advisement and support to the Mines Betsy's Friends Peer Educator program, including programmatic development and assessment, as well as group and individual supervision; andAssist with Office initiatives to prevent sexual harassment and interpersonal violence to enhance the capacity and reach of SHAPE Office.For more on the SHAPE Office, please visit: https://www.mines.edu/shape/.This position works on campus in Golden, Co Description of Job Position Responsibilities: Confidential Resource- In collaboration with the Associate Director, provide information, and guidance to victims/survivors of sexual harassment, sexual assault, and interpersonal violence (including dating/domestic violence and stalking) about their rights, options and available resources, and make appropriate referrals to on-campus/local resources and/or the Title IX Coordinator to best support Mines students through healing, safety, and/or reporting processes Serve as a member of the Confidential Resources team, attending monthly meetings for communication and ongoing professional development. Maintain collaborative relationships with on and off campus partners to facilitate effective and caring referrals. Peer Education Program Support Assist in the leadership of the Peer Education program. Co-advise Peer Educators through group supervision. Attend Peer Education meetings, including cohort meetings, supervision group meetings, and leadership team meetings. Provide guidance to individual Peer Educators with developing appropriate and evidence-based program plans, and learning outcomes, and evaluations for their projects and outreach events to lead for their peers. Assist in the hiring, training, ongoing professional development, progress documentation, and evaluation of a team of Peer Educators. SHAPE Office Prevention Initiatives Assist with the development, implementation, and assessment of efforts to prevent sexual harassment, sexual assault, dating/domestic violence, and stalking including passive campaigns, awareness activities, and primary prevention workshops and trainings. Research best practices, implementation efforts, and sustainability practices for prevention education strategies. Support the mission of the SHAPE Office through attending relevant meetings, events, outreach opportunities, campus committees, relationship-building efforts, and service opportunities on occasion. Project Related to Educational Program Each school semester, the intern will be required to work with their supervisor on identifying and completing one independent project related to their educational program and/or career goals in any area of program development, assessment, or services. This project will be used to apply the skills learned in the internship to their educational program. Salary and Benefits $25/hour rate Mines takes into consideration a combination of candidate's education, training and experience s well as the position's scope and complexity, the discretion and latitude required in the role, work location, and external market and internal value when determining a salary level for potential new employees. Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Student Development, Public Health, Social Work, Gender Studies, Psychology, Law or related field by start Background knowledge about gender-based discrimination, sexual harassment, sexual violence, dating/domestic violence, and stalking. Demonstrate understanding of and sensitivity to the issues/concerns of members of a higher-education community. Ability to work with students, faculty, and staff in a professional manner. Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills, both written and verbal. Ability to manage and oversee multiple projects efficiently.
