Prevention Outreach + Social Media Intern

Job Description

Davis Behavioral Health, Inc. is seeking part-time, temporary students to complete their Bachelors-level internship placement. The Communications Intern will support the Central 3 Communities That Care youth-focused substance use prevention coalition through strategic communications, social media, community engagement, events, and public outreach. This internship is designed for students interested in social media, strategic communication, public health, community events, nonprofit outreach, or related fields.

The intern will help translate prevention research and coalition activities into accessible, engaging content for youth, families, community partners, and broader public audiences. Working closely with coalition staff and the internship supervisor, the Communications Intern will contribute to projects that increase awareness of prevention efforts, highlight community impact, and strengthen public engagement.

Essential Job Functions

• Support the development and implementation of communications and public engagement activities
• Learn and consistently apply coalition goals, branding standards, prevention messaging, and communication strategies
• Develop and maintain a social media content calendar
• Create engaging social media content, including graphics, videos, written posts, photographs, and other digital materials
• Schedule and publish approved content across appropriate social media platforms
• Translate prevention research and evidence-based public health information into accessible and engaging messages
• Attend coalition meetings, community events, and outreach activities as assigned.
• Capture photographs and video content at coalition and community events.
• Monitor social media performance and analyze engagement metrics.
• Prepare basic social media analytics reports and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Support youth engagement initiatives, including polls, contests, stories, and other interactive content
• Conduct interviews with coalition members, youth leaders, community partners, and other stakeholders
• Develop content that highlights local prevention successes, partnerships, and community impact
• Maintain professional communication with coalition staff, community partners, and stakeholders.
• Complete a special communications or outreach project determined in collaboration with the internship supervisor

Schedule

The internship will require approximately 10 hours per week for 15 weeks or 15 hours per week for 10 weeks. Specific work hours and scheduling will be established with the intern's supervisor based on coalition needs, community events, and the student's academic schedule.

Monday 9:00AM-2:00PM Tuesday 9:00AM-2:00PM & Wednesday 9:00AM-2:0PM

The internship will be from Spring 2027 semester and Fall 2027

Required Experience

Education/Certification

• Currently enrolled in an accredited college, university, community college, or other postsecondary educational program
• Pursuing coursework in communications, public relations, marketing, public health, nonprofit management, journalism, social media, community engagement, education, or a related field is preferred.
• Completion of or current enrollment in coursework related to communication, digital media, public health, marketing, or a related discipline is preferred
• Ability to participate in required in-person and remote activities throughout the internship.

Experience

Required

• Experience using social media platforms for personal, academic, volunteer, or professional purposes
• Experience with written communication, content creation, or digital communication through coursework, student organizations, volunteer activities, employment, or other relevant
• Experience working independently and as part of a team.
• Experience meeting deadlines and managing multiple assignments or projects

Preferred

• Experience creating social media graphics, videos, photographs, or other digital content
• Experience using social media scheduling, analytics, or management tools.
• Experience with Canva, Instagram, CapCut, or similar digital content creation tools.
• Experience with community events, nonprofit organizations, public health initiatives, youth programs, or community outreach.

Experience conducting interviews or developing stories for digital or social media audiences.

• Experience working with youth or youth-serving organizations.
• Experience developing a social media content calendar or communications plan

Skills and Abilities

• Strong written, editing, and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to communicate complex information in clear, concise, and audience-appropriate language.

• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and support special projects as needed.

The selected candidate must successfully pass a pre-employment criminal background check and drug screening. DBH will not hire individuals currently using illegal drugs or abusing alcohol; therefore, making employment at DBH conditional upon successfully passing pre-employment drug screening by providing a valid sample. Candidates who are offered employment are required to report for a drug screen at an Intermountain WorkMed location within 24 hours of being requested to do so by the DBH Human Resources Department.

Davis Behavioral Health works with Federal grants and must comply with the Federal drug laws, including no use of medical marijuana.
