New Choices Recovery Center is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by substance use. New Choices provides treatment, prevention, recovery support, housing, and community-based services in Schenectady, NY and the surrounding area.

Role Description

\n

The Prevention Program Coordinator is a full-time, on-site position based in Schenectady, NY. The Coordinator supports the day-to-day delivery and coordination of New Choices Recovery Center’s prevention programming.

\n

Responsibilities include facilitating prevention programs and educational activities, coordinating program schedules and participant communication, supporting community outreach and events, preparing prevention materials, and maintaining accurate participant and program documentation.

\n

\n

The coordinator works with schools, community organizations, participants, families, and New Choices staff to support prevention programming and connect individuals with appropriate information and resources. The position may also provide program coverage as needed and orientation to prevention curricula, procedures, and documentation practices.

\n

\n

Some local travel and occasional evening or weekend availability may be required for programs, trainings, outreach activities, and community events.

Qualifications

• Experience working in substance use prevention, behavioral health, human services, education, youth/family services, or a related setting.
• \n
• Ability to facilitate structured educational or prevention programming with individuals, families, youth, and community groups.
• \n
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including public speaking and working with diverse participants and community partners.
• \n
• Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to coordinate multiple schedules, programs, and activities.
• \n
• Ability to maintain accurate participant records, attendance information, program documentation, and required data entry.
• \n
• Ability to follow established prevention curricula, program procedures, and documentation requirements.
• \n
• Ability to develop positive working relationships with schools, community organizations, participants, families, and internal staff.
• \n
• Comfortable using standard office technology and electronic documentation systems.
• \n
• Ability to work respectfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds using trauma-informed and culturally responsive practices.
• \n
• Bachelor’s degree in human services, public health, education, social work, psychology, or a related field preferred, or relevant combination of education and experience.
• \n
• Prevention credentialing, such as CPP or CPS, and experience with New York State prevention services are preferred but not required.
• \n
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for travel to schools, community locations, New Choices sites, and outreach events.
