Description

The Department of Interdisciplinary Alcohol/Drug Studies Center is accepting applications for its Prevention Specialist position.

Examples of Duties

This individual will provide outreach services throughout the state of Mississippi, including, but not limited to, representing the program at community events and informational booths. training peer educators, conducting impaired driving awareness presentations, hosting town hall meetings, and developing educational materials such as brochures and flyers related to impaired driving prevention.

Responsibilities also include attending community meetings, responding to requests from community agencies, and analyzing and evaluating project goals and objectives to ensure programs are implemented effectively and cost-efficiently. The individual will prepare monthly reports, attend statewide meetings, coordinate and facilitate program activities and assist the project Coordinator with additional program initiatives and duties as needed.

Typical Qualifications

Bachelors degree in public health, social work, counseling, education, criminal justice, communications, or a related field

Experience in community outreach, public health, substance abuse prevention, health education, social services, or related fields.

Knowledge of alcohol, tobacco, and other drug prevention strategies, particularly related to impaired driving and youth prevention.

Experience planning and facilitating educational presentations, workshops, trainings or community events.

Ability to engage diverse populations, including youth community leaders, schools, law enforcement, and partner agencies.

Experience developing educational materials, reports, and program documentation.

Strong communication, public speaking and organization skills.

Ability to work independently.

Ability to travel throughout the state daily/weekly.

Ability to work weekends as needed.
