Primary Care Physician – Locum Tenens

Role Summary

The Primary Care Physician (Locum Tenens) provides comprehensive, patient-centered medical care in an outpatient clinical setting. This role focuses on preventive care, chronic disease management, and acute care services for patients across the lifespan. The physician works collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, coordinated care while supporting clinic coverage needs across multiple sites.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Deliver comprehensive primary care services, including evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of acute and chronic conditions

  • Provide preventive care, wellness visits, and health screenings for patients of all ages

  • Manage chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma, COPD, and cardiovascular disease

  • Prescribe medications and develop individualized, evidence-based treatment plans

  • Order, review, and interpret laboratory tests and diagnostic studies

  • Coordinate patient care with specialists, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals

  • Document all patient encounters accurately and timely in the electronic medical record (EMR)

  • Educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatment plans, and preventive health strategies

  • Participate in team meetings and care coordination efforts as needed

  • Maintain compliance with clinical quality standards and regulatory requirements

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school

  • Completion of an accredited Family Medicine or Internal Medicine residency

  • Active and unrestricted state medical license (or ability to obtain)

  • DEA registration (or ability to obtain)

  • Board Certified or Board Eligible

  • Current BLS certification (ACLS preferred)

  • Strong clinical judgment, communication, and documentation skills

Desired Qualifications

  • Preferred: Minimum of one (1) year of clinical experience in primary care

  • Comfort working autonomously in certain clinical settings

  • Experience in outpatient primary care environments

  • Experience working with elderly or medically complex patient populations

  • Familiarity with value-based care or population health models

  • Comfort working in team-based clinical environments

  • Experience with electronic medical record systems

  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish or other languages is a plus

Schedule & Flexibility

  • Minimum commitment: Guaranteed two (2) days per week

  • Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM

  • Flexibility required, as clinic demand may vary

Floating Requirement

  • Provider must be willing to float between up to three clinic sites as needed

  • Mileage reimbursement will be provided

Patient Volume

  • Average patient load: Approximately 20 patients per day

  • Patient population: All ages

  • Location: On-site (multiple clinic locations)

  • Setting: Outpatient clinic
