As a PRIMARY PREVENTION SPECIALIST (PREV WF), GS-0101-12 you will:

  • Serve as the point of contact for harm and abuse prevention programs and activities; provides program coordination and serves as the subject matter expert for JFHQ, Wings, and BDEs Integrated Primary Prevention (IPP) Program.
  • Advances policies, practices, and plans outside of the existing Resilience, Risk Reduction and Suicide Prevention (R3SP) (Army) and Suicide Prevention (Air) office, among others, for equities specific to self-directed and interpersonal harm primary prevention. Establishes procedures, mission objectives, and organizational design to eliminate barriers to mission accomplishment. Facilitates dialogue between state programs, divisions, directorates, and other areas to capture existing risk and protective factors related to the earliest prevention of self-directed and interpersonal harm though existing councils and circulation among the formation.
  • Serves as the Primary Prevention Integrator (PPI) managing all aspects of a complex integrated primary prevention program (P3) for the Wing/Region.
  • Maintains a parallel and clearly defined supporting role to existing JFHQ data collection efforts and advocates prevention messaging with sensitivity to pre-existing trauma.
  • Delivers initial prevention activities, averting harm or abuse before it occurs
  • Identifies risk and protective factors that lead to or protect against unhealthy or unsafe behaviors.
  • Develops coordinated plans for reducing risk factors and promoting protective factors for increased resiliency within the community.
  • Crafts formal assessments and evaluation processes to monitor outreach programs and services through evaluation of activities.
  • Support inter- and intra-personal violence prevention efforts and programming through the unit level leadership advisory committees, boards and working groups. Represents their populations integrated prevention efforts as a member of leadership advisory committees, boards and working groups.
  • Collect, consolidate, and present relevant prevention program data to leadership advisory committees, boards, and working groups. Briefs Commanders and senior personnel on Integrated Primary Prevention (IPP), as defined in applicable policy and official guidance, to obtain optimum support for IPP activities. Below the JFHQ level, chairs leadership advisory committees, boards and working groups, as requested by leadership.
  • Network with internal programs and offices at the JFHQ, Wings, and BDEs (such as Behavioral Health, Equal Opportunity, Sexual Assault Prevention and Response, Family Programs, Yellow Ribbon, and Substance Abuse Program) to standardize and synchronize training and evaluation in order to provide a well-coordinated approach to prevention.
  • Assault Prevention and Response, Family Programs, Yellow Ribbon, and Substance Abuse Program) to standardize and synchronize training and evaluation in order to provide a well-coordinated approach to prevention.
  • Recruit, train, and facilitate military volunteers for prevention activity implementation.
  • Provide technical oversight to service members within the JFHQ, Wings, and BDEs who are assigned to perform integrated prevention activities at the Unit level.
  • Supports and participates in state-level committees, boards, and working groups. Provides self-directed and interpersonal harm prevention data and metrics to Wing/Region Primary Prevention Integrators (PPIs), all councils and boards within the S/T/DC in coordination with and as requested by the IPP Officer. Coordinates with Directors of Psychological/Behavioral Health, and other response/post intervention personnel to ensure alignment of messaging to JFHQ council or board leadership regarding self-directed and interpersonal harm.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

GENERAL EXPERIENCE:

In addition to applicants meeting the basic requirements in the individual occupational requirements, use the Office of Personnel Management Group Coverage Qualification Standard for Professional and Scientific Positions experience and education table to determine qualifying for positions at higher grade levels (generally grade GS-7 and above).

For research positions, use the Office of Personnel Management Group Coverage Qualification Standard for Professional and Scientific Positions experience and education table and the combination of Graduate Education and Professional Experience, as applicable.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:

Use the Office of Personnel Management Group Coverage Qualification Standard for Professional and Scientific Positions Specialized Experience time requirements of 1 year equivalent to at least next lower grade level. This specialized experience time requirement applies to both one- and two-grade interval work.

Education

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Degree: Behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position that included at least 24 semester hours of course work in the behavioral or social sciences.

OR

Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field that included at least 24 semester hours of course work in the behavioral or social sciences.

OR

Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
