We are seeking an experienced and inspirational Primary SEN Lead Teacher to deliver high-quality, specialist education for children with Special Educational Needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape a new specialist provision, creating a structured, nurturing and ambitious learning environment where pupils can thrive academically, socially and emotionally. You will lead learning across KS1 and KS2 within a small specialist hub, working closely with teaching assistants and multidisciplinary professionals to deliver highly personalised education aligned to EHCP outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver high-quality, adapted teaching for pupils with ASD and SEMH needs
Plan, deliver and assess personalised learning programmes based on EHCP outcomes
Lead teaching and learning across KS1 and KS2 within a specialist setting
Manage and support a team of teaching assistants
Create a structured, nurturing and inclusive learning environment
Support communication, emotional regulation, social development and independence
Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure consistent provision
Monitor progress, maintain accurate records and contribute to reporting requirements
Promote safeguarding, wellbeing and positive behaviour strategies at all times
Contribute to curriculum development and school improvement planning
Person Specification
Essential:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
Experience working in a special school or SEN setting
Experience supporting pupils with Autism and additional needs
Strong understanding of the Primary National Curriculum
Experience managing or leading teaching assistants
Strong planning, assessment and classroom management skills
Ability to remain calm, consistent and positive in challenging situations
Desirable:
SEN-specific qualification
Postgraduate training in Autism or related SEN specialism
