Primary Purpose
An ISS Paraprofessional provides instructional assistance to students that are placed in the in-school suspension (ISS) disciplinary setting. A Behavioral Adaptation Support Environment (BASE) Paraprofessional manages student behavior in the BASE classroom while under the direct supervision of a certified teacher. Assist in preparing, conducting, and managing of classroom activities.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or hold a General Educational Development (GED) certificate.
- Certification: Have met formal academic assessment, associates degree, or two years of study at an institution of higher learning.
- Valid Texas educational aide certificate.
Special Knowledge/Skills
- Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics.
- Ability to work well with children.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
Experience
- Some experience working with children.
Major Responsibilities and Duties
- Instructs and models replacement behaviors identified on students behavior plan.
- Provides instruction and role-play opportunities for students in replacement behaviors identified in students behavior plan.
- Consistently monitors students and uses BASE monitoring sheets to document student behaviors.
- Maintains effective communication with classroom teachers, staff, administrators, and parents that build relationships and lead to greater behavioral outcomes.
