TITLE: Pre-K to Fifth Grade Team Leader

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Valid West Virginia teaching certificate for Elementary School

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Principal

SELECTION: The position is filled by the Board of Education upon recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools

FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:

The Team Leader will be in charge of a teaching/learning team. The leader will perform a quasi-administrative function as liaison between the school principal and team leaders in most matters relating to the performance, needs or concerns of the team and their students. Their duties include instructional, guidance, supervisory, and administrative responsibilities such as the following:

  • Coordinating team's instructional planning to maintain unity and consistency with program goals.
  • Conduct team meetings.
  • Develop schedules of instruction and child supervision.
  • Organize instruction within the team, participating in instructional activities with team members and children.
  • Place and group children.
  • Serve as a intermediary between teachers and the principal in matters of child discipline, child growth and development, and parent relations.
  • Select and order instructional materials.
  • Schedule and use the facilities and equipment.
  • Delegate authority and assignments within the team.
  • Assign, supervise and rate student teachers and paraprofessionals.
  • Coordinate school-community relationships, including parent involvement in instructional activities, meetings, conferences and visitations.
  • Communicate and interpret school policies to team members.
  • Assume responsibility with the school principal for on-going staff development.
  • Work with the school principal in the development of evaluation and feedback mechanisms to further improve and continue to upgrade the school program.
  • Coordinate the administering of student medication.
  • Assume the leadership role and responsibility if necessary in the absence of the principal.
  • Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibility as the superintendent or immediate supervisor may, from time to time assign.
