Position Specific Description

The Unregulated Property Accounting teams at FCOE seek a skilled Principal Accountant to join their dynamic organization. This role requires strong leadership, communication, and coordination skills to ensure alignment with departmental and organizational objectives. The ideal candidate will demonstrate advanced accounting knowledge, provide technical guidance on complex accounting matters, and lead initiatives that drive operational excellence and continuous improvement.

The ideal candidate will be able to:

  • Foster strong working relationships with internal business partners and IBM MXDC resources to ensure alignment with departmental and organizational objectives
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship while serving as a trusted accounting resource and subject matter expert
  • Analyze complex accounting transactions and business activities to ensure appropriate application of GAAP, company policy, and internal controls
  • Leverage systems, reporting tools, and analytics to resolve complex issues and support informed decision-making
  • Lead critical accounting activities and ensure the timely and accurate execution of the accounting close process
  • Review and approve accounting entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules to ensure accuracy and compliance
  • Research complex accounting matters, develop recommendations, and communicate conclusions to management
  • Lead process improvement initiatives and support internal and external reporting requirements in a rapidly evolving business environment

Job Overview

Employees in this role develop accounting policy through analysis of GAAP and business practices. Ensures accounting treatment is practical, cost-beneficial and accurately portrays the economic substance of business transactions.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Analyzes proposed transactions for structure and proper accounting treatment under authoritative accounting literature
  • Reviews changes in technical accounting literature, develops positions and present to management
  • Maintains awareness of accounting issues being considered by regulatory bodies and advises management of important matters
  • Ensures consistent application of accounting policies
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors - Accounting / Finance / Business
  • Experience: 6+ years

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • Masters - Business Administration
  • Masters - Accounting / Finance
  • Certified Management Accountant (CMA)
