Principal Azure Architect (Cloud Infrastructure)
Location: Bridgewater NJ or Plano, TX (Hybrid)
Fulltime – Salary ($150K PA) Don't stop profiles on salary
Indent: PSL308535-1-3

Role Overview:
  • Lead architecture design & delivery of robust Microsoft Azure infrastructure solutions, ensuring scalability, security, and high availability for enterprise workloads.
  • Own end-to-end implementation of Azure environments, from gathering requirements and creating design blueprints (HLD/LLD) through hands-on build, deployment, and production cutover.
  • Architect enterprise-grade Azure environments, including network topologies (Virtual Networks, subnets, VNet peering), multi-subscription landing zones, and secure foundational services aligned to best practices.
  • Drive cloud migrations by assessing on-premises or other cloud systems and leading their seamless transition to Azure with minimal downtime and risk.
  • Implement reliability best practices (e.g. multi-zone/multi-region architectures, backup & recovery solutions, monitoring) to meet availability and performance SLAs.
  • Embed security & compliance at every layer, incorporating identity management (Azure AD), role-based access control (RBAC), encryption, and policy guardrails into all designs.
  • Provide technical leadership to delivery teams, mentoring architects and engineers in Azure technologies and guiding them through complex implementation challenges.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with development, DevOps, and project management teams to integrate infrastructure deliverables with application pipelines and project timelines.
  • Manage stakeholder expectations by clearly communicating architecture decisions, trade-offs, and progress to both technical teams and business leaders.
  • Continuously improve cloud infrastructure standards and frameworks, staying updated on Azure advancements and evolving industry best practices.

Skills & Technical Competency Requirements:
  • Azure Infrastructure Expertise: 12–15 years in IT (with extensive Azure experience) – skilled in designing compute, storage, and network architectures on Azure at enterprise scale.
  • Networking & Connectivity: Deep knowledge of Azure networking – Virtual Networks (VNets), subnets, Network Security Groups (NSGs), VNet peering, and hybrid connectivity options (VPN, ExpressRoute) for secure, performant networks.
  • Security & Identity: In-depth understanding of cloud security – able to design secure Azure solutions with identity and access management (Azure AD, Managed Identities), RBAC policies, Key Vault secrets/encryption, and network security controls (NSGs, Azure Firewall) to enforce compliance and least privilege.
  • Landing Zones & Governance: Hands-on experience setting up Azure landing zones – designing management group and subscription hierarchies, applying Azure Policy and guardrails, and establishing governance frameworks for large-scale Azure adoption.
  • Cloud Migration & Modernization: Proven ability to plan and execute migrations of applications/infrastructure to Azure – performing environment assessments, choosing appropriate migration strategies (rehost, refactor, etc.), and leveraging Azure services for modernization and optimization.
  • Reliability & DR: Familiarity with Azure reliability patterns – designing high-availability architectures across availability zones or regions, implementing backup/restore and disaster recovery (DR) strategies (Azure Site Recovery, geo-redundancy), and meeting enterprise continuity requirements.
  • Automation & IaC: Strong skills in Infrastructure as Code – proficient with Azure Resource Manager (ARM) templates, Bicep, and Terraform to automate provisioning of Azure resources; experience integrating IaC into CI/CD pipelines for repeatable, consistent deployments.
  • DevOps & Containerization: Working knowledge of Azure DevOps and container orchestration – familiar with Azure DevOps Pipelines & Repo management, as well as Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) and container best practices to support microservices and cloud-native architectures.
  • Multi-Cloud & Hybrid: Exposure to multi-cloud/hybrid environments – understanding integration of Azure with on-premises infrastructure (e.g. AD, Azure Arc) and other cloud platforms (AWS/GCP), and how to manage identity, networking, and data across heterogeneous environments.
  • Performance & Cost Optimization: Ability to design cost-effective, performance-optimized Azure solutions – right-sizing resources, using auto-scaling and caching, exploiting cost management tools (reservations, spot instances), and monitoring usage to ensure efficiency and ROI.

Communication & Stakeholder Management Requirements:
  • Leadership Communication: Excellent communication skills to articulate complex Azure architectures and cloud roadmaps to senior stakeholders in clear, business-aligned terms.
  • Client Engagement: Proven experience in customer-facing roles – comfortable engaging with client IT leadership and architects to gather requirements, present Azure solutions, and address concerns during delivery.
  • Documentation & Presentation: Strong ability to produce thorough architecture documentation (design specs, diagrams, runbooks) and to present technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Collaboration: Demonstrated cross-team collaboration and leadership – working closely with developers, operations, security, and PMO teams to ensure alignment and smooth execution across all phases of the project.
  • Mentoring & Guidance: Act as a technical mentor and advisor, guiding teams through challenges, fostering knowledge-sharing, and promoting cloud best practices across the organization.
  • Stakeholder Management: Adept at managing multiple stakeholder expectations – maintaining transparency, negotiating priorities, and ensuring satisfaction by delivering on commitments and value.
