SMX Services & Consulting, Inc. is seeking experienced Principal Consultants SAP IQ / SAP Data Services to support a large-scale federal enterprise data warehouse environment for the Internal Revenue Service Compliance Data Warehouse program.
The selected professionals will provide hands-on SAP IQ database administration, SAP Data Services support, data engineering, ETL development, performance tuning, troubleshooting, technical support, and operational maintenance.
The IRS Compliance Data Warehouse supports more than 5,000 advanced users and manages approximately 10 petabytes of structured and semi-structured data. Its technical environment includes SAP IQ, SAP Data Services, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Windows, SAN-connected storage, remote mount points, file shares, and direct-attached storage.
Principal Consultants will:
Administer SAP IQ Simplex and Multiplex databases.
Monitor database access, performance, utilization, and availability.
Support database backup and recovery.
Maintain accounts, roles, permissions, and privileges.
Recommend database design modifications and improvements.
Plan, test, and deploy software patches, version upgrades, configuration changes, and cybersecurity CVE mitigations.
Develop and maintain SQL scripts and database logic.
Write, analyze, and optimize complex SQL queries.
Identify and rewrite long-running or inefficient queries.
Design and implement schema and index changes.
Develop logical and physical data models.
Define entity relationships, referential integrity constraints, and primary-key structures.
Evaluate alternative schema designs and document technical tradeoffs.
Recommend indexing, partitioning, and other database optimization strategies.
Design, develop, test, implement, maintain, execute, and monitor ETL workflows.
Support ingestion from databases, flat files, XML, text, and other supported formats.
Develop transformation logic for data standardization, cleansing, validation, and processing.
Implement ETL error handling, logging, monitoring, reconciliation, restart, and recovery.
Optimize ETL performance and resource utilization.
Perform unit testing, integration testing, and validation prior to production deployment.
Troubleshoot data anomalies, processing failures, database issues, and performance bottlenecks.
Maintain technical documentation, schemas, file specifications, process dependencies, test plans, and standard operating procedures.
Administer SAP Data Services development, test, and production environments.
Support proof-of-concept initiatives, testing, deployment, and implementation of technologies from SAP IQ or certified partners.
Support technologies related to data integration, entity resolution, address verification, in-database analytics, text processing, distributed query capabilities, and in-memory computing.
Provide incident response, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and issue resolution.
Open, track, and manage support cases with SAP Technical Support.
Recommend issue-prevention and operational-improvement actions.
Participate in status meetings, technical planning, documentation, transition, and knowledge-transfer activities.
Support periodic after-hours and weekend database maintenance activities as required.
These responsibilities are derived from PWS Sections 5.1.2, 5.1.3, and 5.1.4.
Candidates must meet one of the following SAP IQ qualification thresholds:
Current SAP IQ database certification, or
Minimum of five (5) years of experience working with SAP IQ products.
In addition, candidates must demonstrate:
Experience designing, developing, programming, and administering SAP IQ and SAP databases.
Experience using SAP Data Services to develop and maintain ETL workflows.
Working knowledge of SAP IQ developer tools and integrated development environments.
Experience developing and implementing logical data models, schemas, and data-validation processes.
Experience working with Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Windows operating systems.
Experience reading from and writing to fixed-width, delimited, XML, and text-based file formats.
Working knowledge of programming languages and scripting tools such as C/C++, Java, Python, Perl, and shell scripting.
Strong experience with JDBC, including establishing database connections, executing SQL queries, managing result sets, handling transactions securely, and troubleshooting end-user connectivity.
Proficiency in writing, analyzing, and optimizing complex SQL queries.
Strong database performance-tuning skills.
Experience resolving bottlenecks, optimizing server configurations, and restructuring indexes.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Must be able to successfully complete applicable IRS personnel security and suitability requirements.
Must be able to satisfy federal tax-compliance screening requirements.
Must satisfy Selective Service registration requirements, if applicable.
Must successfully complete required fingerprinting and background investigation processes.
Must complete required IRS security forms and Non-Disclosure Agreements.
Must complete required IRS security, privacy, records management, and role-based training.
Must be eligible to receive and maintain applicable IRS Personal Identity Verification (PIV) credentials and staff-like access.
Employment in this position is contingent upon meeting all applicable federal contract and IRS security requirements. IRS personnel security approval is required before personnel may perform work requiring staff-like access.

The PWS identifies these technologies as part of the CDW environment; not every candidate will necessarily support every platform.
This position is expected to be primarily remote.
Work will generally be performed from an approved contractor or remote work location within the United States.
Occasional on-site meetings or support may be coordinated with the IRS.
On-site activities must comply with applicable IRS security requirements.
Activities requiring participation by IRS personnel are generally conducted between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Eastern Time.
Periodic after-hours or weekend database maintenance support may be required.
Government-furnished laptop/desktop equipment and PIV credentials are expected to be provided for assigned personnel.
Pay Range: $66.87 $69.49 per hour
Compensation will be based on relevant SAP IQ experience, SAP Data Services expertise, certifications, technical qualifications, federal experience, and overall alignment with contract requirements.
Final compensation will be determined based on experience, technical capability, and ability to satisfy applicable contract eligibility requirements.
