About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Structural Engineer - Principal Consultant to join our Built Environment Services (BES) team. In this role, you will apply deep technical expertise to evaluate existing buildings and design practical, code-compliant solutions for complex structural challenges. Your work will directly support clients facing property damage, building reuse, and operational changes across a wide range of building types.
What You’ll Do
- Evaluate existing and damaged structures and develop repair and restoration designs
- Lead structural investigations involving fire, wind, flood, impact, and age-related deterioration
- Prepare as-built drawings, technical reports, and construction documents
- Research and apply current and historical building codes to renovation and repair projects
- Perform site visits and field assessments, including roofs, ladders, lifts, and confined spaces
- Serve as a technical lead, managing project scope, schedule, and budget
- Collaborate with business development and participate in client meetings as a subject matter expert
- Mentor junior engineers and support QA/QC across projects
- Have and maintain a book of business with the ability to provide work for mid and junior level engineers, as well as themselves
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (required)
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering preferred
- 5+ years of building envelope assessment and repair design experienced preferred
- 15+ years of structural engineering experience
- Strong knowledge of commercial and residential structural systems
- Proficiency with design software experience is a plus
- Excellent communication, report writing, and client-facing skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines with sound judgment
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally as needed
The Salary Range for this position is $130,000.00 - $195,000.00 and is dependent on education, experience, location and certifications/licensure.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS, OVERTIME, AND TRAVEL
Physical Demands – Work will be performed both in an office setting and at outside locations (i.e., Client’s office, industrial, construction, and/or residential sites). Employee is frequently required to stand, sit, climb ladders, bend, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, hear, and drive a motor vehicle to job sites. Employee may lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Employee must be attentive, focused, and alert when conducting site inspections, speaking, and interacting with clients, preparing drawings and written reports. Clear vision and depth perception are also necessary.
Overtime – This position is classified as salaried with an exempt FLSA status. Regular working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with one hour for lunch. There will be periods where overtime will be required, which the employee will need to comply with in order to meet the demands of the position.
