Principal Electrical Designer

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Principal Electrical Designer to support the design and drafting of electrical systems for industrial projects. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience preparing detailed electrical design deliverables, collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams, and delivering high-quality drawings in accordance with industry standards and project requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed electrical design and construction drawings for industrial facilities.
  • Develop HV/LV electrical designs, lighting layouts, grounding and earthing systems, and power distribution layouts.
  • Produce single-line diagrams, wiring and control schematics, cable tray layouts, cable routing drawings, electrical equipment layouts, and installation details.
  • Prepare cable schedules and support cable sizing, cable tray sizing, lighting calculations, and related electrical design activities.
  • Participate in 3D model reviews and coordinate designs with engineering disciplines.
  • Review drawings for accuracy, quality, and compliance with applicable codes and project specifications.
  • Support field activities including site walkdowns, panel audits, and verification of existing installations when required.
  • Mentor junior designers and contribute to successful project execution while working with minimal supervision.

Required Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or a related technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in electrical design and drafting for industrial or EPC projects.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD.
  • Experience with SmartPlant Electrical (SPEL), SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI), and MicroStation.
  • Experience with SmartPlant 3D (SP3D); AVEVA E3D experience is a plus.
  • Experience preparing:
    • HV/LV single-line diagrams
    • Lighting and power layouts
    • Grounding and lightning protection plans
    • Cable tray and cable routing layouts
    • Substation and switchyard layouts
    • AC/DC distribution panel drawings
    • Electrical equipment layouts
    • Wiring and control schematics
  • Familiarity with cable schedules, cable pulling calculations, cable sizing, cable tray sizing, and lighting calculations (AGI32 or similar).
  • Strong understanding of applicable electrical codes, standards, and industry best practices.

Preferred Experience

  • Industrial projects in Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Chemical, Power Generation, Mining, Manufacturing, or other heavy industrial facilities.
  • Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams and participating in design reviews.
