About the Role
Reporting to the Director of Electrical Engineering, the Principal Electrical Engineer will lead electrical design and engineering efforts across capital projects, facility upgrades, and operational initiatives.
This is a high-visibility role where you'll:
Drive technical standards across a national network of facilities
Act as a subject matter expert (SME) for electrical systems
Lead cross-functional engineering projects and mentor junior staff
Support both project delivery and ongoing plant operations
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Design & Engineering
Lead and approve electrical system designs including:
One-line/three-line diagrams
Control schematics and wiring diagrams
Arc flash, short circuit, voltage drop calculations
Coordination studies
Develop scopes of work for external engineering firms and contractors
Oversee design execution to ensure alignment with budget and schedule
Support capital projects including substations, power distribution, and plant systems
Engineering Standards & Governance
Serve as SME and owner of electrical design standards
Maintain and update engineering specifications and design practices
Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements
Project Execution & Commissioning
Provide engineering support for construction, commissioning, and startup
Partner with project teams to ensure successful implementation
Troubleshooting & Continuous Improvement
Support plant operations with electrical troubleshooting and root cause analysis
Develop cost-effective engineering solutions for system failures
Requirements
Education & Credentials
Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering (required)
Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain preferred
Experience
10+ years of electrical engineering experience
Strong background in:
High, medium, and low voltage power distribution systems
Power plants, industrial facilities, or engineering consulting environments
Experience across full project lifecycle:
Conceptual design, detailed engineering, commissioning
Technical Expertise
Proficiency with:
Electrical diagrams (one-line, schematics, wiring)
Substations, MCCs, transformers, protection systems
Experience with protective relaying (SEL preferred)
Familiarity with engineering tools:
AutoCAD, ETAP, SKM, SEL Acselerator
Other Skills
Ability to manage multiple projects independently
Strong analytical, communication, and reporting skills
Experience working cross-functionally in complex environments

In accordance with New York salary transparency requirements, the anticipated annual base salary range for positions is: $150k-$200k annually. Actual compensation will be based on experience, qualifications, and demonstrated project leadership background.
